We'd like to express our gratitude to the Guernsey Press for sharing the inspiring story of Bronwen Dudley-Owen, the owner of Guernsey Skin & Beauty, who has taken charge of her menopause journey and is now determined to raise awareness and offer support to women in Guernsey.

In this article, Bronwen shared her personal experience of struggling with hormonal changes and feeling unsupported, and how she found a way to manage her symptoms through exercise, nutrition, and expert advice. She also announces a special event on 16 May that will bring together top experts in menopause and provide a platform for women to learn, ask questions, and connect.

We applaud Bronwen for her courage, initiative, and compassion, and we hope her story will inspire many others to take control of their health and seek help when needed.

The reason why you p*e when you cough is all down to stress incontinence which affects up to 50% of women. When you cough, it exerts increased pressure inside your abdomen, in turn increasing pressure on your bladder so, if your Pelvic Floor muscles aren’t as strong as they could be, urine can leak out.

Pelvic Floor muscles tend to weaken after childbirth or approaching the menopause as oestrogen levels decline.

The simplest way to stop yourself having a p*e when you cough is to develop a regular habit of doing your Pelvic Floor muscle exercises.
