The volunteer crew of the Guernsey Inshore Lifeboat once again found fishing line and hooks wrapped around the A frame of the Inshore Lifeboat on its floating dock at the end of the Inter Island Quay. One of the hooks was very close to the self-inflating air bag that rights the lifeboat if it capsizes.

If the self inflating air bag is punctured this could result in the lifeboat not being able to right itself in the event of a capsize, putting the crew at risk.

In addition the hooks could harm the crew when they are preparing to go to sea.

This is unacceptable and the St Peter Port Lifeboat Station asks that people do not fish from the end of the Inter Island Quay.

We are delighted to announce that four of our crew have gained further achievements in their training.

Jack Lucas and Jack Sparkes have both passed out as ILB helms and can now take charge of the ILB in rescue scenarios.

Two of our new recruits Luke Robert and George Melbourne have both passed tier 2 assessments on the ILB and ALB.

Congratulations 🙌

These pass outs are a huge achievement and significantly improve the resilience and lifesaving capability of St Peter Port Station.

Big thank you to our crew for supporting the two Jacks, Luke and George during their training and Lyle Stantiford, Coastal trainer for all his hard work.

The ILB ‘Spirit of Cooperation’ was requested to launch at 13.02pm on Thursday 12 February to a kite surfer who was in difficulty near Fort Le Marchant.

A member of the public contacted Guernsey Coastguard after spotting a kite surfer who appeared to be struggling to reach the shore.

On arrival, the ILB observed the kite surfer making slow progress inshore. A line was established, and the casualty was assisted into deeper water before being recovered safely onto the ILB. The ILB then returned the kite surfer and their board to the safety of the beach in front of the Pembroke slipway.

The ILB and volunteer crew returned to station.

Sea safety reminder:

- Always go out with another person, or at least ensure someone onshore knows where you are and when you plan to return.

- Always carry a means of calling for help. Waterproof DSC VHF radio or mobile phone in a waterproof pouch.

- Don’t go further out than you can swim in case of equipment failure.

- Check the weather conditions and tides.

- Always tell someone your plans.

The ILB ‘Spirit of Cooperation’ was requested to launch at 8:39am on Sunday 8 February to a fishing vessel with one crew member onboard in Telegraph Bay which was disabled by its own fishing gear.

The vessel was drifting with the tide towards the southeast. There was another fishing vessel standing by but unable to assist.

One of the ILB volunteer crew members assisted with releasing the fishing gear. A tow was established and the vessel and its crew member was brought safely back to St Peter Port harbour and waiting Marina staff.

The ILB and volunteer crew returned to station.
