This Monday 19th January is — a positive campaign led by Samaritans encouraging everyone to reach out for a cuppa and a catch-up with someone they care about. It’s all about connecting, listening and supporting one another through meaningful conversation — because a simple chat can make a big difference to someone’s day.

At IslandHealth, we offer a range of mental health support services.

🧠 How we can support you:

• All our GPs can listen and support you with emotional and mental health concerns, offering guidance and referrals as needed.

• We have a dedicated psychotherapy team including experienced practitioners like Alexandra Gray – Cognitive Behavioural Therapist and Victoria Arklie – Clinical Psychologist, who work with patients to improve wellbeing through evidence-based therapy.

• We also have a comfortable psychotherapy room at our Town Surgery, offering a safe, confidential space for dedicated sessions. https://islandhealth.co.uk/town-doctors-surgery/

Whether it’s over a cup of tea or in a therapy session, taking the time to talk about how you’re feeling is important. 💚

📞 If you’re struggling right now and need urgent support, Samaritans are available 24/7 at 116 123 (UK).

🥛 Proud to support Milk for Schools 🥛

At IslandHealth, improving long-term health outcomes in our community is at the heart of everything we do — which is why we’re proud to be supporting Guernsey Dairy Milk for Schools initiative. https://www.guernseydairy.com/milkforschools

Through this programme, local children attending primary school breakfast clubs are receiving a daily serving of fresh Guernsey milk, helping them start the day nourished, focused and ready to learn. 🧠💪

Good nutrition in childhood has lifelong benefits. A simple daily glass of milk provides essential nutrients that support strong bones, healthy growth and sustained energy — building healthy habits that last well beyond the classroom.

We’re delighted to be sponsoring the Vale Primary School breakfast club.

👏 A huge well done to all the partners making this initiative possible.

Guernsey Quitline is launching two new clinics in January, to be offered in addition to the existing clinics, giving smokers wanting to quit the best possible chance of succeeding.

All clinics will offer free, expert stop smoking support from the Quitline specialist nurses, free ni****ne replacement therapy and access to prescribed medication. Smokers using specialist support alongside medication are up to three times more likely to quit successfully than those trying to quit on their own.

Appointments are one-to-one or for small groups of family and friends.

Due to the Storm Warning in place for Storm Goretti, which is expected to impact later this evening, we will be adjusting our closing times slightly to ensure the safety of our patients and staff.

• Last routine appointments at all sites will be at 5:00pm.

• The Town Surgery will close at 5:30pm.

• Our St Sampsons and L’Aumone sites will remain open until 6:00pm for emergency appointments and urgent advice only.

All patients affected by these changes have already been contacted, and we thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

We wish everyone a safe evening and overnight. We expect to reopen as normal on Friday, unless there has been any damage overnight.

Our Story

The practice was founded in 1894 by Dr. V. Gibson. The traditions of caring and dedication continue to be embraced by the partners and form the cornerstone of practice policy. We aim to provide the highest standards of care by both doctors and staff. The doctors are trained and experienced in family medicine and enjoy seeing the range of problems that family medical practice provides. We subscribe to the World Health Organisation’s definition of health; that is, "not merely an absence of disease, but a sense of physical, psychological and social well-being". We believe in preventative medicine and the use of complementary medicines where appropriate. Our practice nurses and other health professionals assist with preventative medicine and clinics involving a wide range of specialist nurse skills. There are established links to allied medical services provided by community nurses, health visitors, psychiatric social workers, dieticians and various self-help groups. As a practice, we keep up with the theoretical and practical advances in medicine and, to this end, the doctors, practice nurses and physiotherapists regularly attend courses, usually within the UK. Since 1994, the practice has been fully computerised.
