The main purpose of sports massage therapy is to help alleviate the stress and tension which builds up in the body’s soft tissues during physical activity. It is based on deep Swedish massage and a combination of other techniques involving stretching, compression, friction, toning, and trigger point response techniques similar to Acupressure and Shiatsu. The aim of the treatment is to use these techniques, along with knowledge and advice, to work effectively with the client to bring about optimum performance, improve range of motion and muscle flexibility, and to provide injury-free training and minimise post event injuries.
This is not just for athletes, the techniques can benefit anyone suffering from aches and pains or just in need of some stress relief.
I am a qualified ITEC level 3 sports massage therapist and student at the British School of Osteopathy.
I also offer taping, pre and post event massage, and pitchside assistance.
