Work with Us 🙌
Guernsey Employment Trust (GET) provides disabled and neurodiverse individuals an opportunity for inclusion and a chance to contribute to society through meaningful work.

We value Collaboration, Respect, Growth and Community. If you want to be part of a team of individuals, who bring positive change to the lives of disabled individuals, then we want to hear from you! We are looking for a full-time Employment Support Officer (fixed term contract until 31.12.26).

The role of Employment Support Officer (ESO) is integral to the work of GET. The role works alongside a team of fellow ESOs. The role involves managing an individual caseload of disabled people and supporting them through all stages of the recruitment process from getting them ready for work, supporting them to apply for work and then maintaining their work.

GET offers a competitive salary, pension and healthcare benefits package with offices located out of town. Flexible working arrangements will be considered.

To find out more about the role and to request an application pack, email info@get.org.gg or call 247999. Completed application to be received by 09:00 on Monday 30th June.

We welcome applications from disabled people.

The successful applicant will need to provide an enhanced Police Check Certificate prior to an offer of employment being confirmed. Disclosure of a criminal background will not necessarily debar you from employment; this will depend on the nature of the offence(s) and whether the convictions are current.

Volunteers Week (2nd–8th June) is the perfect time to shine a light on the incredible individuals who give their time and expertise to support GET. Today, we want to celebrate our Finance Director, Susan Atkinson. Since joining the Board in November 2023, Susan has brought a wealth of financial expertise, strategic insight, and an exceptional eye for detail—helping us navigate reports and funding applications with confidence. Thank you, Susan, for your dedication.

Read Susan's Interview

What is your name and a bit about you - hobbies and interests. An Interesting fact about you as a person.

Susan Atkinson, I love cliff walks and sea swimming (often followed by a hot chocolate and bacon roll at La Vallette!). Having not grown up near the sea, I shocked my family and I by embracing winter swims over the past two years and earning my RYA Powerboating Level 2 certificate.

What is your role at/ for GET and what does it involve?

My role as a voluntary Finance Director is in providing financial oversight to GET and supporting the Chief Executive alongside the rest of the Board. I oversee the accounting which is outsourced to DNA and produce quarterly information for the Board. Since taking over from the previous Finance Director in 2023, I've automated the Board reporting and budgeting within XERO and have focussed on getting to know the numbers, reviewing the capital reserves policy, preparing financial projections, and advising on some changes to ensure cash flow and sufficient funding for the next two years which we successfully managed to secure to help meet growing demand. We collaborated with Grant Thornton to calculate the social impact of GET and enjoyed a productive strategy day with all the GET staff, which has already led to some useful changes.

What made you want to volunteer for GET?

Becoming a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants for England and Wales, I felt very lucky to have had great career opportunities over my 15 years in the Guernsey finance industry and to have taken a career break for my young family. I wanted to use my financial skills towards a worthwhile cause whilst gaining experience at Board level and I'd completed the ICAEW Sustainability course in 2023 so GET stood out to me as it aligned with UN Sustainability Goal 10, reducing inequalities, which is a goal that Guernsey can easily work towards to maximise the skills and workforce on the island. I came to understand the challenges that people experience when not in work and how valuable it is for anyone that would like to work to have the support to be able to do so. Everyone has value to add and GET supports people and employers to break down barriers to enable a more inclusive and diverse workforce for Guernsey.
What tips or advice (if any) do you have for others looking to volunteer?
It’s great to see many Guernsey companies now offering their staff Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) hours or voluntary paid time off to help Guernsey charities. The charity sector needs skilled board members to support it, so find a charity that you are interested in and by offering your skills and time you will make a real difference to that charity and the cause they support.

Anything further to add?

The team at GET are very passionate and really care about getting the best outcome for each individual client and in supporting employers to enable this. It is admirable seeing everything they are achieving and the impact on people’s lives and social impact this has on the island. The staff would love to help and support more people, especially young people, and I hope we can secure future funding for this to continue and for more employer engagement across Guernsey.

We are delighted with the video produced by The States of Guernsey to help showcase the impact of GET’s work. Phil has a great story to share. He talks about his journey, how we have supported him and the benefits of being in work. Thank you to Phil and to his supportive colleagues at Les Beaucamp School. Thank you to videographer Dave too. 😊

Love seeing Katie’s journey featured in the Health Improvement Commission’s post! 🚲👏

It’s amazing what a bit of confidence—and a supportive community—can do. Thanks to the John Ramplin Charitable Trust’s grant, a great deal from Cycle World, and the brilliant Cycle Confidence sessions run by HIC, Katie’s now riding through town, and with a bit more practice, hopefully to work.

Removing barriers to travel means more independence, more accessibility, and a sustainable way to get to work. Huge thanks to everyone involved in making this happen!

📕 🥂 This evening, we had the pleasure of being invited to a book launch at the Bathing Pools!

The event was standing room only while the audience welcomed the author, Anna Bowditch, talking about her journey with Bipolar. The book is called Me and My Shadow. And there is even a reference to GET within the book. 😊

An honest memoire of a difficult journey, overcoming adversity, resilience, and building a new path. What a day, being part of the Sure Guernsey Marathon and supporting two great local charities.

The GET team got into the community spirit by submitting two relay teams:
Team Brick- Ben and Rick completed half a marathon each 🏃‍♂️ 🏃‍♂️
and
Team GET Going- Becca, Nikki, Charlotte, Lizzie and Will completed between 4 and 6.5 miles each 🏃‍♀️ 🏃‍♀️ 🏃‍♀️ 🏃‍♀️ 🏃‍♂️

Well done , all that training was worth it with great times and big smiles. Some soreness expected tomorrow…! 🏅
