*TOPIC: *IMPORTANCE OF VITAMIN A SUPPLEMENTATION*
✅ Vitamin A is essential for child survival, health, growth and development. Vitamin A deficiency is also the leading cause of preventable childhood blindness.
✅ Children with even mild or moderate vitamin A deficiency have weaker immune systems and suffer from more respiratory infections, diarrhoeal diseases, malarial episodes and measles, contributing to an increased risk of death.
✅ By meeting the vitamin A needs (through supplementation, fortification or adequate diet) of children under five years the death of children in general could be reduced.
*✅ What is Vitamin A*?
Vitamin A is a fat-soluble vitamin that is naturally present in many foods.
✅ Vitamin A is important for normal vision, strong immune system, and reproduction.
Vitamin A also helps the heart, lungs, kidneys, and other organs work properly.
*✅ Types of Vitamin A*
There are two different types of vitamin A.
🌴The first type, preformed vitamin A, is found in meat, poultry, fish, and dairy products.
🌴 The second type, provitamin A, is found in fruits, vegetables, and other plant-based products. The most common type of provitamin A in foods and dietary supplements is beta-carotene.
🌴 Vitamin A is found naturally in many foods and is added to some foods, such as milk and cereal.
🌴You can get recommended amounts of vitamin A by eating a variety of foods, including the following:
🌱Beef liver and other organ meats (but these foods are also high in cholesterol, so limit the amount you eat).
🦈🐟Some types of fish, such as salmon.
🍃🍀Green leafy vegetables and other green, orange, and yellow vegetables, such as broccoli, carrots, and squash.
🥭Fruits, including pawpaw,apricots, and mangos.
🌞*VITAMIN A SUPPLEMENTATION *
From six months to 59 months, each child is entitled to take a Vitamin A supplement every 6 months as part of their routine check up.
This is to ensure that children are getting enough and to also compensate for inadequacies.
You can visit the nearest health center where they do ‘’weighing’’ to have your child immunized.
Thank you all for your time. Merry Christmas and Happy new year.🎄🎄🎄🎄
