Part 2
Perihealth... Preserve the Roses
G-DNA... Ghana in our DNA
G-DNA... Africa in our DNA
Perineal trauma is a common reality in vaginal childbirth, with estimates suggesting 85-90% of women experience some form of injury. While often deemed "normal," severe tears can lead to distressing long-term complications like chronic pain, dyspareunia, and pelvic floor dysfunction, profoundly impacting a woman's quality of life and her journey into motherhood.
This is precisely why good perineal suturing and robust perineal health practices are paramount. Proper, timely repair can significantly reduce pain, promote faster healing, prevent long-term complications, and ultimately enhance a woman's postnatal recovery and overall well-being. It's about ensuring every birthing woman receives the best possible care and preserves her health for years to come.
To ensure the sustainability of this vital training, each midwife participant was provided with a dome model – a practical tool they can now use for continuous training and demonstration at their respective facilities. This empowers them to cascade knowledge and skills, creating a ripple effect of improved care across Ghana.
I Sa-ada Sadique wants to say a huge thank you to Perihealth Limited UK (Adelaide Aduboffour and her Team) for their invaluable partnership, to Rachel Robinson for her dedication, and to all the participating midwives for their commitment to advancing maternal health.
Together, we are making a tangible difference in the lives of Ghanaian women and their families.
