The lumbar vertebrae have the roots of the sciatic nerve. The roots come together to form a big nerve bundle and run along the middle of the buttocks,the middle part of each buttocks, along the thigh down the calf to the feet. Pressure on any of the nerve roots due many reasons can cause sciatica:pain along the thigh muscles or calf or sometimes the heels.
