Our Founder , Gifty Ayoka Gifty joined innovators and thought leaders in Kigali(October 13-15)for the Africa Health Tech Summit (AHTS), where she was a panelist at a workshop focused on advancing inclusive health and assistive technology solutions across Africa.
While in Rwanda, she also participated in a Custom Cards Workshop organized by GDI Hub and Senses Hub, where she co-facilitated one of the group sessions. The workshop, co-led with Dr. Joseph Tumusiime, the only Rwandan speech and language therapist was part of the Automatic Speech Recognition for Atypical Speech project under the , in partnership with UCL’s Global Disability Innovation Hub (GDI Hub) and the Centre for Digital Language Inclusion (CDLI).
Together with the Rwandan speech therapist and persons with speech impairments, participants co-created phrase sets in Kinyarwanda and everyday Rwandan expressions. These will help train speech models that understand people’s real voices in their local languages, accents, and abilities.
This is not another data collection exercise,it’s about co-creation, inclusion, and designing AI that truly understands every voice.
