Your kidneys clean your blood. The kidneys are found on either side of the spine, just below the ribs. They work as a filter to remove water and wastes from the body. Urine is water that contains wastes: what is leftover in the blood from food used by the body and the body’s many functions. Some of the body’s wastes are passed out in urine, which flows down the drainage tubes (ureters) into the bladder.
Kidney disease is a serious, long-term medical condition that touches the lives of many. It can be seriously frightening for a person to learn from their doctor that their kidneys have stopped working properly and that they may soon need dialysis treatment and perhaps a kidney transplant.
