Making baby food fun and nutritious whilst not breaking the bank or wasting food has been on my mind lately. Babies can be such picky eaters sometimes, cooking different meals for baby and the rest of the family can be tiring too, plus figuring out nutritional content and all. The list is endless.
Guess my new trick - you all know i like quick and easy things; so I reduced the spices and pepper in the family’s meals( I am the only pepper lover anyway) and just purée what we are having for baby, just enough to have 2 servings- 1 for freezing and to eat immediately.
So far it’s been going smoothly and Miss A seems to enjoy eating the same thing everyone is having.
Last night, we had chicken soup with yams(story for another day).
I simply took the meat of the bone, added 1 slice of yam and some soup and cooked carrot in the blender and baby had a delicious meal, with some leftover for lunch today - she loved it.

What are some tricks you have to make weaning easy and stress free? Care to share?

Weaning a baby is no small task at all. From looking for baby friendly recipes to shopping for healthy options to meal planning and preparation, finally feeding which comes with acceptance-then that meal becomes the only one baby wants or rejection.
For my family, we normally start introducing solids at 4months - with doctors advice of course; and each child gives a funny response.
My oldest Miss K loves anything with soup, from as early as i can remember
Miss A on the other hand just wants anything going into my mouth and currently we are on thicker purées with texture, finger foods and anything Miss K is eating, 😂.
I decided to just go with the flow with this baby, no menus, no plan. We eat what is available but i still try to plan ahead small - meal prep though we don’t always eat it that week, also have a few ready to eat meals on standby- our favorite now is Heinz first steps breakfast and dinners.

Basically take it one day at a time when it comes to weaning or introducing solids. Babies can make you question your self plenty times in 1 day - the will eat something very well today and absolutely reject it with screams of death next time you try feeding them.
It’s all part of the process.
Take it 1 meal at a time.
Feed small portions at a time. Freeze the rest if possible
And most importantly don’t take it to heart- they don’t mean to be bossy food critics whilst being so cute

How do you get your kids to eat fruits and vegetables?

1 trick i use is purées and popsicles but lately the weather has been too cold for the latter so i do more purées especially for Miss A - 7months old now.
Also to preserve my fruits i puree and freeze so i can use later.

We got this baby food pouch maker on a recent trip and i have been in love with it. Making a pouch for everything 😂. Fortunately baby girl loves it and it comes with a spoon attachment for easy feeding when out.

This is Mango and Banana
Wash, peel, cut up and blend away.
Portion and freeze or refrigerate as necessary.

What fruits and veggies are your favorite?

Cold Water Sterilization:
Sterilization is the process of destroying or eliminating all forms germs and microbes.
Germs are our babies first enemies as their immune system is now developing and it is our duty to make sure we eliminate as much as possible- we can’t eliminate all.
Cold water sterilization involves using clean cold water in a bucket or bowl(clean), a sterilizing agent- Milton tabs or liquid or any other sterilization tablet you have, for at least 15 minutes or as stated on the label.
Tip:
•You can use the tablets in your wash too.
•Sterilizing at bedtime gives you clean, ready to use bottles in the morning
•Ensure all bottles, cups, spoons, pacifiers and toys are well washed and rinsed thoroughly before sterilizing.
•Safe for toys too: sterilize at least 1x or 2x a week or nightly if baby puts toys in the mouth

Mpotompoto
This simple yet delicious meal has become an all time favorite for the kids- summer break.
We have made it with potatoes, cocoyam and yams and they loved all, especially Miss A.
It’s a great weaning food, loaded with vitamins and nutrients and easy to make too.

Oats: Baby A’s favorite cereal so far, every time i make it for breakfast, I have to blend her portion.
She prefers eating the same things we are having as opposed to eating her baby foods - win win for me ☺️☺️
The only thing is blending her portions before feeding.
This picture is Oats and banana for breakfast

Does your baby prefer the family meals too?

It’s Avocado season!!!!!!!!
Did you know this fruit is rich in fiber and healthy fats that support digestion and brain development for your little one? They are also a rich source of B-Vitamins, contain vitamin E as well as Zinc to aid in immune health.
Best of all it’s easy to prepare

1 half of the pear - depending on size pureed or pass through a sieve and voila.
We loved it, try it and let us know what you think.

Did you know your breast milk changes colors?

Couple of weeks ago, I was in so much pain, found out i had an infection and needed to take some antibiotics.
No big deal right?
Wrong! I couldn’t breastfeed because this particular antibiotic has negative side affects on babies.
Was this not going to affect my supply? Solution: pump and dump
What about Miss A, will she take formula again without a fuss?
None of the things going through my mind were about me, 😂 and i was the one in pain 🙄
This is milk from one of my pumping sessions- a particularly hard one because I had been up all night with an upset baby - madam didn’t like the change in menu at all and she made sure everyone in my area heard her complaint which eventually ended with her accepting pureed food but that’s a story for another day.

What are some of the colors you have seen? This brings my total to 4
Yellow = colostrum
Blue = normal, more water
White = more fat
Green = antibiotics or drug use/ infection
What about you?

We found our feet 😃
Ending our fourth month and we discovered we could squeal really loud - we love doing it, especially at dawn; laughing out loud is fun 🤩 and the best, we have feet.
Yep, now mommy has to fight to keep our legs still when getting our socks on but it’s so much fun to hold our feet and chew on the little nubs - mommy calls them toes. And there are 10 to chew on, how fun 🤩.
Do you have feet and toes too???
Signed Baby Anelie ❤️
