Beyond Traditional Grief: Navigating the Unseen Impact of Job Loss and Financial Challenges

Grief is a complex emotion that extends beyond the loss of a loved one. The weight of job loss and financial instability can also trigger a profound sense of grief. When a job vanishes, it's not just about income – it's about a piece of identity and purpose slipping away. Daily routines are disrupted, financial worries surge, and the connections built through work fade, leaving a feeling of isolation.

Dreams and aspirations tied to careers can crumble, echoing the unfulfilled potential felt in traditional grief. The emotional journey resembles the stages of grief: shock, denial, anger, bargaining, sadness, and eventually, acceptance. Self-esteem can take a hit, and a sense of powerlessness over circumstances arises. Just as with traditional grief, seeking support and understanding is crucial in navigating these uncharted waters and finding a way forward.

In closing, I invite you to continue following on this enlightening journey. Our dedication lies in unraveling the less-discussed causes of grief, extending beyond the loss of a loved one. By shedding light on these often overlooked facets, we aim to foster understanding, empathy, and ultimately, healing. Together, let's navigate the intricate landscape of human emotions and emerge stronger and more resilient.

As we embark on a fresh week, I encourage you to make your mental well-being a top priority. Achieving optimal mental health requires your dedicated effort. Take a moment to consider these helpful tips:

1. Regular Meditation:
Carve out moments in your schedule to engage in regular meditation sessions. During these peaceful moments, allow yourself to delve deeply into your thoughts, finding solace and regaining focus.

2. Focus on positive things:
In a world brimming with distractions, it's crucial to consciously shift your focus towards the positive. By cultivating determination to see the bright side in every situation, you can protect and nurture your mental well-being.

3. Avoid toxic people:
Avoiding toxic people is vital for protecting your mental health and well-being. These individuals consistently display negative behaviors like criticism, manipulation, disrespect, and a lack of empathy.

4. Talk to yourself with kindness:
Treating yourself with compassion and understanding is crucial for your mental health. Replace negative self-talk with positive affirmations, embrace self-acceptance, and practice self-care.

5. Take a break:
Taking a break doesn't have to be elaborate; even small actions can make a difference. Stepping away from your desk for a short walk, practicing mindfulness, or spending time with loved ones can serve as valuable breaks. The key is to prioritize moments of rejuvenation and self-care, no matter how brief they may be.

Prioritize your mental health and seek professional help if engaging in these recommendations becomes challenging. It's essential to recognize when additional support is crucial, and seeking help is a sign of strength and self-care.

PRIORITIZING MENTAL HEALTH

Mental health awareness is a critical issue that affects millions of people worldwide. Mental health conditions can be debilitating and have a significant impact on an individual's quality of life, relationships, work, and overall well-being. Unfortunately, there is still a stigma around mental health that prevents many people from seeking help or discussing their mental health issues with others.

To address mental health issues and reduce the stigma around them, education, awareness-raising campaigns, and access to mental health services are essential. By prioritizing mental health support, we can create a healthier and happier society for all.

As mentioned in the previous post, the causes of low self-esteem are different for everyone. However, each of these causes have the potency to make an individual develop a negative or unhealthy opinion of himself/herself. Having an experience of any of the causes listed in the attached document and the previous post could make an individual value himself/herself less.

I would like to lay more emphasis on SOCIAL MEDIA....The tendency to make comparisons and believe almost everything that is displayed as reality is a major threat to a healthy self-esteem. Let's be mindful of what we choose to believe as true on social media.

More importantly, it is expedient to seek professional help if you are struggling with a low self-esteem persistently for at least 2weeks.

YOU CAN OVERCOME THIS STRUGGLE

Low self-esteem simply refers to having a poor opinion of yourself. It also means not believing that you deserve love and not valuing your own thoughts, feelings, opinions, interests, and goals. Another practical explanation of low self-esteem is thinking negatively about yourself often, judging yourself badly, and lack of confidence in your abilities. Having low-self esteem can also play a role in how you allow others to treat you. It can be a serious problem because aside the negative impact it has on how you feel about and treat yourself, it can also negatively affect your motivation to achieve things in life and your relationships.
The causes of low self-esteem are different for everyone. Indicated above is a list of five causes of low self-esteem. We would look at the next five causes in the next post.
It is helpful to seek professional help if you are struggling with low self-esteem.

YOU DON’T HAVE TO KEEP STRUGGLING WITH THIS

Navigating through life with emotional insecurity is a heavy burden. An indication of emotional security is doubting everything, and especially yourself. Finding one's self in this situation greatly impedes happiness. This insecurity may have developed during childhood, or as a result of a highly impactful traumatic situation(s).
Emotional insecurity is a great hindrance to healthy self-esteem, and a huge stumbling block to building strong relationships. This is because emotional insecurity fuels an individual with self-doubt and a strong sense of inferiority.
This may encourage compensatory behaviors such as arrogance, aggression or bullying.
It is okay to seek therapy to rebuild emotional security.

DO YOU FEEL LOST AND ALONE?

Feeling accepted, liked, and included by others is a basic human need. It is therefore easy to feel lost and alone without that sense of belonging. According to research, the loss of belonging can be associated with stress, illness, decreased well-being, anxiety, and depression. Our sense of identity is deeply rooted in social interactions that show our belonging to particular groups through shared beliefs, values, or practices.

As humans, we have need to belong to one another, to our friends and families, to our communities and to our world.

Despite our social specie nature, the increasing work-from-home culture and isolated periods that many experience these days pose a challenge to attaining a sense of belonging. It is okay to seek therapeutic assistance to discover steps to find a sense of belonging and eventually develop a healthy self-esteem.

WHO AM I?

How we identify and define ourselves makes us unique and distinguishes us from everyone else. Having a negative self-identity is directly related to low self-esteem, whilst having a positive self identity is directly related to healthy self-esteem. There is a need to have an accurate perception of one's self-identity in order to develop healthy self-esteem.
Are you having challenges with identifying your unique self such that your overall opinion of yourself, your beliefs, your abilities, and limitations seem negative or inaccurate? It is okay to seek therapeutic support in forming an accurate perception of your self-identity.

CAN YOU RELATE WITH THIS?

Believing in yourself and your abilities serves as an incentive to meet life's challenges and participate in things you find enjoyable and rewarding. It's normal to feel quite confident in some circumstances and less confident in others. However, the consistency or frequency in feeling confident influences your self-esteem either positively or negatively. This may eventually lead to either accepting or losing trust in yourself, dwelling more on either your strengths or weaknesses, and the extent to which negative or disappointing experiences affect how you feel about yourself.

Considering the aforementioned, seek therapeutic support if you find yourself dwelling more on the negatives than the positives which has the tendency to cause a self-perpetuating cycle of negative thinking where negative expectations for the future discourage you from trying, and leads to disappointing outcomes.
