The Occupational Therapy Department at Pantang Hospital conducted a meaningful outreach visit to Holy Rosary School, offering free screenings for students presenting with learning and developmental needs such as Autism Spectrum Disorder, Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, and Dyslexia, among others.

Beyond the screenings, the team also engaged teachers in an educational session focused on early identification within the classroom and the importance of timely and appropriate referrals—particularly to Pantang Hospital for further assessment and intervention.

This initiative reflects a strong commitment to early detection, inclusive education, and collaborative care.

We, the Occupational Therapy Association of Ghana, are proud of the incredible work being done by the Pantang Hospital team. Your dedication to community outreach and child-centered care continues to make a meaningful impact.

Cheers to the Pantang Hospital team for the impactful work being done 👏

Today, Donald is proudly representing the Occupational Therapy Association of Ghana, standing alongside Kathleen as she carries out her advocacy project to raise awareness about occupational therapy in Ghana 🇬🇭

Together, they are not just sharing information
they are planting hope.
They are opening doors.
They are inspiring the next generation.

Because every conversation, every student reached, and every mind opened brings us one step closer to a future where occupational therapy is accessible to every child who needs it.

This is what advocacy looks like.
This is what impact feels like 💛

What if one career choice could change access to healthcare across an entire country?

The Occupational Therapy Association of Ghana is excited to welcome Kathleen Appau, .otds a doctoral student from the University of Scranton, who is partnering with us to raise awareness about occupational therapy in Ghana 🇬🇭

Right now, the reality is stark:
👉 1 occupational therapist serves over 800,000 people
👉 Services are available in only 4 out of 16 regions — mostly in the south

That means thousands of children and families across Ghana are going without the support they need to thrive.

Kathleen’s project is focused on something powerful:
✨ Inspiring the next generation

By introducing high school students to occupational therapy — what it is, why it matters, and giving them hands-on exposure — we are planting seeds for the future.

Because when more young people choose this path, we don’t just grow a profession…
We expand access. We reach more regions. We change lives.

This is how systems begin to shift 💜

Thank you to for acting as a site mentor and a special thank you to for supporting Kathleen on the capstone project

The Occupational Therapy Association of Ghana (OTAG) would like to express our sincerest gratitude to Dr. Akrofi for taking us through this all important topic. It was a much needed exercise; getting us to explore things in our culture that can influence our work as OT Practitioners in Ghana.

Thank you for the good work! And to all members who participated in our 3-day workshop on Afrocentric Occupational Therapy Practices.

Your attendance, insights, and thoughtful reflections created a vibrant space for reimagining our profession through a culturally grounded and community-focused perspective.

From engaging online sessions to impactful in-person discussions, your contributions were truly valuable.

We’re looking forward to the journey ahead as we continue to develop an occupational therapy practice that genuinely reflects our identities, values, and the communities we serve.
