After Jesus miraculously fed 5,000 people with five loaves and two small fish (John 6:1-13), the crowd followed Him wanting more (vv.24-26). The Lord told them not to work for physical food that spoils, but “for the food which endures to everlasting life, which the Son of Man will give you . . . . I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst” (vv.27,35).

As followers of Jesus, we should help those who lack adequate physical nutrition. And with all, we can share the good news that our hunger for inner peace, forgiveness, and hope can be satisfied by knowing Christ the Lord.

Jesus Christ, the bread of life, invites us to come to Him for His feast for the soul, urging us to eat until we are full.

I will allow no sleep to my eyes
or slumber to my eyelids,

Are there times when a Christian shouldn’t talk about God? I think so. In the face of insincere challenges to our faith, silence may often be the best response. In the hostile situation of Jesus’ exchange with Caiaphas, He chose silence at first (Matt. 26:63). He understood that Caiaphas wasn’t interested in the truth (v.59). While we don’t always know another’s heart, we must be sensitive to the leading of the Spirit in every situation that we “may know how [we] ought to answer each one” (Col. 4:6).

Also, if an answer to a question will move the discussion down a rabbit trail and away from Christ, we might want to stop the conversation and pick it up another day.

Are there other times when silence may be best? If talking about faith distracts us or co-workers from performing our job, we should stay focused on our work. Or if someone has shown a continual resistance, we might choose to stop pressing them. Remember, we can be a witness of God’s grace with our conduct as well (1 Peter 3:1-2).

Silence can be one tool in evangelism

This Week's Devotion, dear Saints:

Matthew 13:22-23 (NIV)
22.The one who received the seed that fell among the thorns is the man who hears the word, but the worries of this life and the deceitfulness of wealth choke it, making it unfruitful.
23.But the one who received the seed that fell on good soil is the man who hears the word and understands it. He produces a crop, yielding a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown."

Perhaps the most famous of all of Jesus' parables is the parable of the sower. The seed was illustrative of the word of God. It was sown on a path, rocky ground, w**d filled ground, and good soil. The seed on the hard path was eaten by birds. That which grew in the rocks withered from heat, because the roots were shallow. The seed that grew with the w**ds bore no fruit because of the choking power of the w**ds. The seed in the good ground multiplied from 30 to 100 times the amount of seed.
The soil is a picture of man's heart. The hardhearted never allow the word to take root. The stony heart does not let the roots grow deep. When difficulty comes, they forsake the word. We are focusing on the seed among the w**ds. Jesus said the w**ds are worries of this life and the deceitfulness of wealth. Some hearts will never allow their trust for daily needs to be placed in the Father's hands. They think their own hard work and planning is the way they survive. The fear of lack drives them to concentrate on gaining wealth. Jesus called wealth deceitful. It promises satisfaction and provision, but it can do neither. It can fly away with one little monetary crisis. Today's hot investment is tomorrow's big loser. If your heart is set on these things, you will not bear fruit. In a w**dy field, the w**ds suck the nutrient from the soil. That keeps the stalk of grain from having sufficient nutrients to form the grain heads.
The good soil produces many times over what was originally sown. Is the word of God multiplied in your life? Are you giving the word out because of the increase the word has produced in the good soil of your heart? If not, examine what kind of soil your heart is. The Lord is waiting to change the condition of that soil if you will ask.
Consider: Let the word of God dwell in you richly! Colossians 3:16a

This Week's Devotion:

Matthew 9:36-38 (NIV) 36When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. 37Then he said to his disciples, "The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. 38Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field."

When you look at a crowd, what do you see? Jesus' heart breaks for them, because they are so helpless. That image of sheep without a shepherd is full of implications. They don't know where to go for food or water. There is no one to tend to wounds. The wolves come in whenever they please and devour as many as they like. We are harassed by our flesh from within, and the carnality of others from without. Then there is the Devourer. He is ready to give us what ever we lust after that will destroy us. Harassed and helpless!

Jesus used the analogy of a harvest loaded and ripe. If no one gets out there and picks it, the harvest is wasted. I have seen it happen when there is a bumper crop. The fruit is just waiting to be picked. But when you can't find enough help, and in our world today it is hard to find laborers that will work at a wage that makes it profitable, the fruit starts to drop to the ground. Those that will work give it their all every day and go home exhausted. The Fall winds come and shake the fruit off the tree. Finally the freeze comes and destroys what is left.

If you are willing to share the heart of Jesus, what should you do? Our first thought is practical. Run out and join them. But that is not what Jesus asked us to do. He requested that we ask the Lord of the harvest to send workers into His harvest field. You have to know how to pick without damaging and wasting the fruit. Running out and trying to help is not the solution. Prayer is the answer! God is training the harvesters. Pray that He will send them. God wants you to participate through prayer, by praying His will into the earth.

Consider: Next time you see a crowd, what will you do?

Todays Devotion, Saints:
(Have a blessed Sunday)

Exodus 31:13 (NIV) 13"Say to the Israelites, 'You must observe my Sabbaths. This will be a sign between me and you for the generations to come, so you may know that I am the LORD, who makes you holy.

The Israelites had weekly Sabbaths (a day of rest), but they also had new moon Sabbaths and other special Sabbath days related to their feasts. On those days, there were restrictions as to how much they could do and how far they could go. All these were designed to have them take time to contemplate the God they served. They were to be still for a day to focus upon God. The above verse teaches that the reason for the Sabbath was to know who the LORD is and that He is the One who makes us holy. It seems that they missed the whole point of the exercise and concentrated on the rules surrounding the Sabbath instead of the purpose. They thought that keeping the rules made them holy, when it is clearly the LORD that makes them holy.

They had the example in Abraham who was declared right with God by simply believing in God before he had done anything the Lord asked. They also had the example of the man recording this passage, Moses. He was a murderer and failed miserably when he tried to do it his own way. But when we know we can't do it ourselves, that holiness is unattainable by our efforts, we finally look to the LORD who makes us holy. Though, at that time, they did not understand how, they simply needed to believe He would. It is the trust placed in God, not a detailed understanding of the process that makes men right with God, both then and now. He makes us holy. His work will transform our lives when our trust is placed in Him.

Meditation: Consider that it is the LORD who makes you holy.

Dear Father, in the name of Your holy Son,
We desire like Jesus prayed for us to be 1
We desire to give, serve and love others with more than our words
Bless us to be humble and to be meek
We want to be a joy when people come around us
Make the spirit in us gentle, bless us to be content
Please keep us from our sins, Let us quickly repent
Please give us discipline and self control
To know when to stop and when to say no
Make us bold witnesses, please remove fear
Replace it with faith and pour out Your Spirit here
Fill us up Lord, let us overflow and overdose,
Make us Holy and keep us close
We want to give it all until there’s none left
But we can’t beat You givin', Look at Your Son’s death.

The burden to pray for our women of today, fashion is eating them up and they no longer want to cover themselves but to expose. Just imagine the number of people who are tempted daily. There is need for a new wind in their fashion. Saints, we need to place a demand for this change, we need to pray seriously.
