5 REASONS WHY MOST PEOPLE ARE UNABLE TO RECOVER FROM CHRONIC AILMENT

Chronic ailments are diseases that are continuing or occurring again and again for a long time and would require a long-term recovery span.

I have over the years observed a few reasons why patients with chronic ailments are unable to recover. The following are contributing factors.

1. Rapidly Declining Desire to Live again
Recovering from any ailment is like receiving a heavy bout in a boxing arena. The best thing to do is to have mental toughness to fight back. If one begins to feel guilty of his/her current state, his desire would be significantly deflated. Health comprises of diverse compartment of life and one must possess a stronger desire to live than what’s dragging them out of this life.

2. Desperation
Chronic ailment is different from acute. Acute conditions are short term and recovery is relatively easier. Some people want to just become well within 3 to 5 days of falling sick. It doesn’t work that way. They resort to buying every Medicine, visit every clinic in a short while, without completing any of the course of the medication. Chronic ailments requires much patience and one must appreciate the daily improvements that occur no matter how minute or insignificant they may seem.

3. Declining Family Support
4. Lack of Proper Planning
5. Inadequate Medical Counseling

Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease.

Health therefore comprises of our
1. Spiritual well-being
2. Emotional/psychological well-being
3. Social/Relational well-being
4. Financial well-being
5. Physical well-being

I would encourage all and sundry to have “an all-inclusive” robust plan to practically develop these aspects of our lives.

Developing and living good health means that
1. No esoteric force or inexplicable influence can devour your soul or take hold of body by building your spiritual life.
2. Debt and financial irresponsibility on our part can not thwart the full potential of our healthy living
3. We will develop mental toughness or emotional fortitude against betrayal, disappointment, disloyalty, divorce, among others.
4. We modify our lifestyle to live healthy, maintain healthy weight, eat early, embark on regular checkup, work out, and spend some time on vacation. Treat all underlying conditions, finish the course of medicine you’ve been given, make a doctor a friend etc.
