Big news for School Nutrition in Ghana! 🇬🇭

The Ghana Health Service has established an inter-agency committee to coordinate nutrition programmes for school-aged children and adolescents nationwide, strengthening efforts in school feeding, nutrition education, food safety, deworming and more to improve children’s health and learning outcomes.

👏 We are proud to see GAND members in high-level leadership roles on this important committee, including our Immediate Past GAND President.

🙏 A big thank you to the development partners and agencies whose support made this possible.

This is great news for the nutrition and wellbeing of school children in Ghana.

GAND participated in a 2-day Strategic Planning Workshop on the Food Policy Program Communication Campaign, organized by SEND GHANA.

The workshop brought together key stakeholders including the Ministry of Health, Ghana Vision 4 Accelerated Sustainable Development, Ghana NCD Alliance, Ghana Health Service, Ghana Standards Authority to develop a Ghana-tailored 2026 mass media campaign supporting Mandatory Front-of-Pack Warning Labels (FoPWL).

We value the strong collaboration toward promoting healthier food environments in Ghana.

Stunting in early childhood doesn't just affect physical growth; it limits cognitive development, reduces future earnings potential and weakens Ghana’s competitiveness on the global stage.

We cannot build a high-income economy on the back of a nutrition crisis. Let's protect our people and safeguard our future labour force

Ghana has the talent. We have experts. We have the strategic plans on paper but without the funding to back them up, our progress is stalled. Our trained health workers are ready to act. They just need the resources to reach the doorsteps of those who need them most.

Share wide! Let's raise the alarm on the implications of underfunding on nutritional outcomes.

When we invest in the nutrition of a mother and her child, we are pulling multiple levers of progress at once:
- breaking the cycle of poor health and low productivity.
- ensuring every child has the brainpower to excel in school.
- building a workforce that is strong, capable and innovative.
- creating a resilient economy that can compete on the global stage.

We need sustainable domestic financing for solutions that save lives today and shape Ghana’s destiny for generations to come.

Let’s stop seeing nutrition as a cost and start seeing it as our most powerful development tool.

If we want a prosperous Ghana, we have to talk about what is on our children's plate. Long-term national development depends on how well we fund maternal and child health now!

Let's champion the funding and policies that ensure every Ghanaian child has the chance to grow strong.

The goal is simple: Nourish our children. Nourish our future.

Families and frontline workers cannot eliminate malnutrition with "empty hands." They will be empowered to achieve this feat with increased governmental funding for nutrition. There will be better reliable supplies for local clinics, training for community health volunteers and consistent outreach to the most vulnerable households.

When we fund the grassroots, we empower all of Ghana to thrive.

When nutrition budgets are unclear, hidden in other departments or poorly tracked, accountability breaks down.

We are calling for budget transparency. This means:
- clearly identifying funds dedicated to nutrition at both national and district levels.
- properly allocating resources so they reach the front lines on time.
- openly reporting on spending so citizens can see the impact of every cedi.

When we track our investments, we get better results, fewer wasted resources and healthier children.
It’s time to shine a light on nutrition spending!

Share this post to demand clearer tracking of our health and nutrition budgets.
