Camping at HSF for our outreaches offers an experience of a lifetime, one that is unforgettable, some team members even say it’s addictive… yeah, working with us gives you such experiences as you’ll never experience elsewhere…

We spend our nights in open green fields, under the moon light, plan our humanitarian interventions, organise our meals, have meetings, and share a laugh or two.

You’ve never really camped, until you’ve compared HSF style.

Just in case you’re wondering how we feed on outreach; well we have a dedicated team that makes sure we we are well nourished while camping out for days in the some of the remotest communities you can think of.

We travel with all we need, cooking utensils, ingredients and all… even water. We try to be self sufficient on our travels, which means everything has to be planned properly and well accounted for… it’s easy to see photos and say wow, but imagine travelling with about 50 people to deliver a multi faceted program that involves lots of things, usually with no network access to call for or receive anything… absolutely perfect and thorough prep is key, cos once you’ve arrived there’s no going back, you make do with what you planned for.

Our kitchen and related duties are not gender roles! We have both men and women in the kitchen, churning out delicious meals in camp, and even extending some of these services to children and other beneficiaries of our projects.

You’ve not had a complete camping experience, until you’ve had it hsf style, and charity may be just a word to you, until you spend a weekend with us… and then you realise it’s a lifestyle.

At HSF, though our service is free, there’s no laxity of attention or of the depth of work done to ensure people are well looked after. Our medical team work morning to dusk, attentively listening to concerns, educating, treating, referring or offering other support services as required.

Through this dedicated service, we have gone on to identify and sponsor life changing neurosugical interventions for some of our beneficiaries, cancer surgery and therapy, hydrocephalus surgery among others. Many of these were discovered in the line of consultations at HSF outreaches or by referral, where due to the circumstances of the people, we have had to go the extra mile of funding further care for them at tertriary facilities.

We have also on many occassions identified previously unknown urgent medical conditions and put people in touch with the right services to ensure their lives can go on.

Stay with us, as we continue to delve into the essence of our work at HSF, and of the amazing people that make it happen.

We don’t just go throwing about aid, we live in the communities, we talk with and identify with the people we serve, we try to understand their lifestyle, their socioeconomic activities and the things that matter to them.

We believe at HSF that healthcare delivery should proceed from the most basic of settings, that identifies more with real life issues that people grapple with…

We believe this approach gives a much more holistic insight when combined with “sterile” clinical input, for a more comprehensive care package that is truly responsive to the basic needs of our people.

Stay tuned as we walk you through what it means to work with us at Health Support Foundation

After settling in on outreach we have a durbar with the chiefs, elders, opinion leaders and select members of the community. This meeting, the last of several such meetings that precede our outreaches gives us an invaluable opportunity for the team to identify more with the community, establish the parameters of out work, settle misconceptions, communicate our intentions and most importantly get the community involved actively in our work. It’s been a blessing the kindness of the Honugo. and Gornu chiefs and community members during our just ended outreach. Stay tuned and we delve into our mission here at HSF

Once we arrive on the grounds it’s always an all hands on deck situation, because there’s so much to be done, to unpack, set up our camp, create our own little all inclusive village, where we live, manage our meals/water etc without having to depend on our hosts for sustenance. Our outreaches place value on team work and coordination, and the results are there for all to see. Stay tuned.

Getting things ready for an outreach involves a great deal of co-ordination and leg work. Our work is a targeted intervention module, which means we don’t necessarily do the same things for every community… from the medications we source, the donations we give, the educational and livelihood support we offer etc are tailored to the unique requirements of the community following our community entry and study protocols. It’s thus like an orchestra coming together on the final day. Follow us and learn more details of our work.
