The final management of toothache is

Tooth extraction

Most dentists prefer to save natural teeth when they can. But sometimes, it’s not possible. If your tooth is badly damaged, you may need a tooth extraction. During this procedure, your dentist will carefully remove your tooth from its socket and clean out any infection.

If you need a tooth pulled, talk to your dentist about replacement options. Once you’ve healed from your extraction, they can replace it with a dental bridge or dental implant. They can also make you a temporary tooth to wear until you get your permanent replacement.

Reasons for Tooth removal

Infection and Decay

Cracked Teeth

Root canal therapy (Endodontic therapy)

If bacteria from a cavity or crack invade your tooth pulp, you’ll need a root canal.

This procedure removes inflamed nerves, blood vessels and connective tissues from inside your tooth. Next, your dentist will clean the inside tooth surfaces, then fill your pulp chamber and root canals with a filling material. In most cases, you’ll also need a crown to protect and strengthen your tooth.

What are the signs that I may need a root canal?

If you have an infected tooth, you may need root canal treatment to clear out the infection. You can have infected teeth without symptoms. When you have symptoms, they may include:

Tooth pain——that doesn’t go away. Lots of things make your teeth hurt. But pain that’s deep in a tooth or that spreads to your jaw, face or other teeth may mean you have an infection.

Pressure hurts——If your tooth hurts when you eat or touch it, it may mean something damaged the nerves around your tooth pulp.

Swollen gums——If you have an infected tooth, your gums may swell or feel tender.

Pimple on your gums——Infected teeth can create pimples or boils on your gums that ooze smelly pus.

Swollen jaw——Your jaw may swell from pus that doesn’t drain away from your infected tooth.

Discolored tooth——Tooth pulp infection keeps blood from getting to your tooth. That makes your tooth turn dark.

Loose tooth——Pus from infected tooth pulp can soften the bones supporting your tooth, making your tooth feel loose.

We will sure smile and laugh this December

The next management we are going to talk about is

Inlays or onlays

Sometimes, a cavity or crack is too big for a filling but not large enough to warrant a crown. In these instances, your dentist may recommend an inlay or onlay.

This type of custom ceramic restoration fits into your tooth like a tiny puzzle piece.

Inlays and onlays are used in molars or premolars, when the tooth has experienced too much damage to support a basic filling, but not so much damage that a crown is necessary.

The key comparison between them is the amount and part of the tooth that they cover.

An inlay —— will incorporate the pits and fissures of a tooth, mainly encompassing the chewing surface between the cusps.

An onlay —— will involve one or more cusps being covered. If all cusps and the entire surface of the tooth is covered this is then known as a crown(which we have already talked about).

We are continuing with the management of took ache and the next management is

Dental crowns

A larger cavity or fracture may require a dental crown. This tooth-shaped “cap” fits over your entire tooth, strengthening it and reducing the risk of further damage.

A dental crown is a tooth-shaped cap that restores a decayed, broken, weak or worn-down tooth. Dentists also use crowns to cover dental implants and root canal-treated teeth.

The next management of toothache we are going to talk about is;

Dental fillings

If you have a small cavity or if a small piece of your tooth has broken off — your dentist will probably recommend a dental filling.

During this procedure, they’ll remove any damaged portions of your tooth, and then fill in the void with a strong dental filling material.

There are several types of filling materials used to repair cavities, including tooth-colored (composite) fillings and silver-colored (amalgam) fillings.

Composite resin materials are increasingly used by dentists to fill teeth because many people prefer tooth-colored fillings and because composites continue to improve.

Have you had your tooth filled before
