Ghana’s Dr. Emmanuel Boahen Atta Sangara Crowned Africa’s Top Malaria Microscopist

Dr. Emmanuel Boahen Atta Sangara, Medical Laboratory Scientist at the Upper West Regional Hospital, has been named the overall winner of the WHO Malaria Microscopy Competency Assessment for Africa held in Kenya.

As Ghana’s sole representative, Dr. Boahen demonstrated exceptional skill across all assessment areas: malaria film preparation, Giemsa staining, parasite detection and speciation, and parasite density estimation. His performance earned him first place on the continent and renewal of his WHO Level 1 Accreditation, the highest certification in malaria microscopy.

This milestone is a significant achievement for the medical laboratory science profession in Ghana. Dr. Boahen’s success underscores the caliber of expertise within our profession and sets a benchmark for excellence across Africa.

Congratulations, Dr. Boahen, on this well-deserved recognition and for raising the standard for malaria diagnostics.
