REPORT ON THE LAUNCH OF CHILD HEALTH PROMOTION WEEK IN ANLOGA DISTRICT.
The Anloga District Health Directorate successfully launched Child Health Promotion Week on 5th May, 2015 with the primary aim of improving the health and well-being of children in the district. The event brought together key stakeholders, including nursing mothers, frontline nurses, and the District Director of Health, to emphasize the importance of preventative healthcare for children.
The launch ceremony commenced with a welcome address by the District Director of Health Service
Miss Jemima Misonu Akporlu.
She highlighted the significance of Child Health Promotion Week in reducing child morbidity and mortality.
Miss Jemima Misonu Akporlu delivered the keynote address which underscored the government's commitment to child health and urged nursing mothers to actively participate in the activities planned for the week. The Director emphasized the crucial role of nurses in reaching out to every child in the district.
A key part of the launch involved interactive sessions and demonstrations focusing on essential child health interventions. These included:
Growth Monitoring:
Nurses provided demonstrations on proper techniques for weighing and measuring infants and young children.
Nursing mothers were educated on how to interpret growth charts and identify potential signs of malnutrition or growth faltering.
Vitamin A Supplementation :
The importance of Vitamin A for vision, immune function, and overall child development was explained. Nurses administered Vitamin A supplements to eligible children present at the event.
Immunization :
A strong emphasis was placed on the importance of timely and complete immunization against preventable diseases. Nurses provided information on the immunization schedule and addressed concerns raised by nursing mothers. They also conducted on-the-spot vaccinations for children who were due for their shots.
Nursing mothers had the opportunity to ask questions and receive personalized advice from the health professionals present. The event fostered a supportive environment where mothers could share their experiences and learn from each other.
Activities Planned for the Week:
The launch served as a kick-off for a week-long series of activities aimed at reaching a wider population of children in the Anloga District. These activities are expected to include:
* Outreach clinics in various communities for growth monitoring, Vitamin A supplementation, and immunization.
* Health education sessions on topics such as exclusive breastfeeding, complementary feeding, hygiene, and the prevention of common childhood illnesses.
* Home visits by community health officers to identify and address the health needs of children who may not have attended the launch event.
The launch of Child Health Promotion Week in the Anloga District was a resounding success. The active participation of nursing mothers, nurses, stakeholders and the District Director of Health demonstrated a collective commitment to improving child health outcomes.
