Did you know digestive diseases affect thousands of Ghanaians every year?

From peptic ulcers to gastroenteritis, these conditions impact our daily lives, but many are preventable.

Tips To Lower Your Risk:

1. Wash your hands thoroughly before eating and after using the toilet to prevent infections that cause diarrhea and other digestive issues.

2. Eat more fiber-rich foods like kontomire, garden eggs, plantain, and whole grains to support healthy digestion and prevent constipation.

3. Drink clean, treated water and avoid street food from unhygienic sources to reduce your risk of typhoid and cholera.

4. Limit spicy foods, alcohol, and NSAIDs (like ibuprofen) if you’re prone to ulcers or stomach pain.

5. Eat well-cooked food.

Don’t ignore persistent symptoms like abdominal pain, blood in stool, or chronic heartburn, seek medical attention early.

Visit Pleasant Medical Centre for digestive health screenings and expert care.

✔️ Lives changed through access to quality care

This impact would not have been possible without the dedication and selfless service of our volunteer doctors, nurses, and healthcare professionals who gave their time, skills, and hearts to this initiative.

Thank you for making hope and healing possible.

As we celebrate what we achieved together, we are already looking ahead with optimism to the 2026 Free Surgeries Programme, to reach even more people and save more lives.

As the year comes to an end, it’s the perfect time to check in on your health, before the celebrations wind down and a new year begins.

An end-of-year checkup helps you:
✔️ Detect health issues early
✔️ Review ongoing conditions
✔️ Plan for a healthier year ahead

Recommended checkups to do before year-end:

🔹 Blood Pressure Check – detect or monitor hypertension

🔹 Blood Sugar Test – screen for diabetes or pre-diabetes

🔹 Cholesterol & Lipid Profile – assess heart health

🔹 Full Blood Count (FBC) – check for infections, anaemia, and general wellbeing

🔹 Liver & Kidney Function Tests – especially important after festive eating and medication use

🔹 Weight & BMI Assessment – understand your health baseline

🔹 Women’s Health Checks – breast exam, cervical screening (Pap smear)

🔹 Men’s Health Checks – prostate screening (as advised by your doctor)

🔹 Children’s Health Review – growth, development, and immunisation status

Don’t wait for symptoms.
Many conditions are silent in the early stages. A simple checkup can make a big difference.

At Pleasant Medical Centre, our team is ready to guide you through the right tests based on your age and health needs.

Visit PMC or call to book your end-of-year checkup today.

Staying Hydrated During the Harmattan 💧

The harmattan season may feel cool and dry, but your body loses water faster than you think. Dehydration during this period can lead to headaches, dry skin, fatigue, constipation, and even dizziness.

Here’s how to stay properly hydrated this harmattan:

• Drink water regularly – Don’t wait until you’re thirsty. Aim for small sips throughout the day.

• Warm fluids count – Herbal teas, warm water, and light soups help hydrate without making you feel cold.

• Limit dehydrating drinks – Reduce alcohol, excess coffee, and sugary drinks; they make you lose more water.

• Eat water-rich foods – Oranges, watermelon, cucumber, garden eggs, soups, and stews help boost fluid intake.

• Protect your skin and lips – Dry skin is a sign of dehydration. Use moisturizers and lip balm, and drink more water.

• Children and the elderly need extra care – They dehydrate faster. Remind them to drink water often.

Remember: If your urine is dark yellow, your body is asking for water.

At Pleasant Medical Centre, we care about your health in every season. If you’re experiencing frequent headaches, weakness, or extreme dryness this harmattan, visit us for a check-up.
