What is synergism?
Synergism basically is an interaction between two or more elements (such as foods) producing an effect that is greater than the effect that would have resulted from summing up the effects of the individual elements.

This simply means that *the magic about food is in combination (variety) as compared to the individual foods themselves*

One of the goals of Food Processing and Preservation is to turn food products into forms that have improved organoleptic properties and extended shelf life. The commonest way of achieving this goal is addition of sugar (added sugar) to food products during food processing.
However, most studies have shown that overconsumption of sugar (mostly from processed foods) poses detrimental health effects including overweight/obesity, insulin resistance, metabolic syndrome and type 2 diabetes.
Examples of sugars found in processed foods include sucrose (table sugar) ,high fructose corn syrup, caramel, castor sugar, confectioner's sugar, fruit juice concentrate,icing sugar ,invert sugar ,dextrin , dextrose. Keep an eye on the amount of added sugar in a particular food when you go to shop for groceries. Foods you must watch out include ice cream, candies , fruit juices ,ketchup, canned fruits, breakfast cereals, soda, biscuits.
To cut down your sugar intake , eat whole foods like fruits and vegetables (contains essential micronutrients and other beneficial compounds) and minimize the consumption of processed foods.

Ingredients are listed in descending order by weight, with the first item listed being the cardinal or predominant constituent in the food. Reading and understanding this information will enable you to compare the nutrients found in similar foods. For instance, you can compare two evaporated milk of different brands for their fat and cholesterol content.
