Ga East Municipal Hospital Hosts Digital Health Preceptorship for ICT Professionals
On 25th August 2025, the Ga East Municipal Hospital (GEM-H) proudly hosted the
Digital Health Preceptorship for ICT Professionals, an important initiative aimed at strengthening digital solutions within the health sector.
The program brought together a team of national coordinators, ICT experts, hospital administrators, healthcare leaders and was hosted by Mr Renfred D. Semabia (Head of IT, GEM-H) to explore innovative ways to integrate digital tools into service delivery.
Purpose of Gathering
Mr. Charles Banafo, Administrator of GEM-H, warmly welcomed stakeholders and shared the purpose of the gathering. He commended the team for their readiness and applauded their quick development of the first sample for Maternal and Perinatal Death Audit Support System, acknowledging it as a promising step even though still a work in progress.
Mr. Therson Mintah, the National Preceptor Coordinator, gave a background overview of the initiative, setting the tone for the day’s discussions.
Leadership Support
The Medical Superintendent, Dr. Ayuba Seidu Abdulai, expressed pride in GEM-H being the first facility to pioneer this digital health preceptorship. He pleaded with stakeholders that interface challenges will be addressed and affirmed the hospital’s full commitment to ensuring the program’s success.
Mr. Hammond, Deputy Director of ICT, took participants through a detailed presentation of the new software, expressing appreciation to GEMH for its openness and strong collaboration. He announced plans to roll out ICT training for selected staff, ensuring smooth adoption of the system. Outlining the implementation roadmap, he revealed that the system is expected to be fully ready by end of October, piloted in November, and officially rolled out for full implementation in January.He further emphasized that with these strides, GEMH is on track to becoming one of the smartest hospitals in the region.
National Endorsement
Representing the Ghana Health Service,Dr. S.K. Boakye Boateng the Director of Policy Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation (PPME) conveyed profound joy at GEMH’s openness and innovation. He reaffirmed PPME’s continuous support, congratulated the hospital for a successful program, and closed with a powerful remind

Nursing Perspective
Ms Gifty F. Ben-Aryee, speaking on behalf the Director of Nursing and Midwifery, also commended the initiative and expressed hope for future collaborations.
Ms Evelyn Doku (DDNS GEM-H) emphasized that the transition to digital systems will help resolve long-standing challenges such as improper documentation, auditing gaps, and report inaccuracy. She noted that the new approach will make data entry and form completion easier and more reliable.
Learners’ Feedback
Representing the learners, Mr. Abdul-Rahma ( Snr IT Manager, Bortionor Polyclinic) introduced his colleagues and presented feedback on the preceptorship. He shared proposed solutions and demonstrated how the upgraded system could improve efficiency and effectiveness in daily hospital operations.
Conclusion
The Digital Health Preceptorship at GEMH was marked by rich dialogue, forward-looking strategies, and collective commitment. The event reaffirmed GEMH’s position as a trailblazer in healthcare innovation and its dedication to harnessing technology for better service delivery.
