Sports Injuries Rehab; GISTING .

📍We have to keep in mind that anything that reduced inflammation also delays healing since the process of inflammation is an essential aspect of recovery.

Question: is ice application and use of NSAIDs at the acute stage of sports injury rehab an ideal or better choice?

10/05/2025

"Emerging data indicates that while Ice therapy can reduce pain and swelling in the immediate aftermath of an injury, prolonged cooling (beyond 6-12 hours) may actually hinder recovery by delaying tissue repair and increasing scar tissue formation".

I have long held that Dr Mirkin who introduced the RICE protocol as the gold standard for treating acute injuries, has however revised his stance, that ice should be used cautiously post injury.

Trying to eliminate inflammation is not the right approach to quick recovery from injuries, since inflammation is part of the body's mechanism of healing itself. This also brings the point that antiinflammatories must be avoided if possible. It has become the norm that with every injury, NSAIDS are the go to for quick fixes. In the long term, it delays recovery, and sometimes leaving underlying tissues unhealed.

PEACE & LOVE is the new and most effective approach.

Even stones need water to be hardened. You need to be watered.
_______

Bermuda and Kentucky grasses are special breeds of grasses used for lawns and soccer pitches due to their ability to withstand foot traffic. FIFA approved these two grasses for subsahara Africa because they can withstand heat; in fact, they even flourishes with the heat. They needs a lot of sunlight to actually do well. For that reason they are called Summer grasses.

Even though Bermuda and Kentucky are heat friendly, they lose their green pigmentation when they have not received water for a long time. These grasses need to be watered twice every week.

Immediately there's water, they begin to sprout again with green leaves.

This lesson came to me when I was asked to inspect progress of work on our training pitches and check how ready they'd be for use in our upcoming preseason. But here's the message I want to convey with this information I just provided above:

Just like Bermuda and Kentucky, our body cells need water to flourish. Vitality is restored to our bodies, we become more alive when we take in a lot of water, bath it even.
Most ailments become powerless in the presence of water, because water is life.

Learn to drink lots of water. Stay under the shower and enjoy the feel of water molecules dripping on your body. Feel alive. Be alive. Water is life.

Take a football pitch for instance:
The grasses refuse to grow, they dry up, and eventually loses their strong roots when they have not been WATERED for a period of time.
Immediately they receive water consistently for three days and more, the grasses begin to turn green, grow and even expand to cover uncovered sites. That's how powerful and important water is.

It is said that water is life. It made more sense--practical sense when I observed how these grasses withered and subsequently came back to life with fresh greening, growth and expansion; it was such amazement if you put your mimd to it and observe it carefully like I did.

And my point? IF WE CAN ALL DEVELOP THE HABIT OF DRINKING ADEQUATE WATER, OUR HEALTH SHALL BE RESTORED. Vitality shall be restored back to our bodies, mind, and soul. We will grow well. Our skins will glow and we shall look fresh and beautiful 😄.
Think of it!!

"On several occasions, I have encountered people with various musculoskeletal ailments, ranging from injuries from sporting events or daily activities, and most prevalent cases of back pains, knee pains, and headaches. And Exercise has been one great medicine that helped them to recover or reduced their pains."

I made the above statement during my Presentation at E.P Church, Ghana in Sogakope On Sunday, May 8, 2022. This was to emphasize the fact, that, IF EXERCISE CAN HELP IN YOUR RECOVERY, IT CAN ALSO HELP PREVENT THE AILMENT.

Prevalent among the population of Africa, is one of the four debilitating musculoskeletal disorders --Lower Back Pains. And there's a causal relationship between good health and financial stability. Chronic Back Pains are very expensive to manage as a lot of time and financial resources go into it. Most of the people in Africa who suffer from this disorder lack the financial capability to seek medical care, and so are left to themselves until they become disabled.
Exercise has proven to be the most reliable means of rehabilitation. It is of concern to us that, a lot of people do not show much interest in enrolling in Exercise programs; this is because of insufficient knowledge on the subject amongst our population. IF EXERCISE CAN CURE, THEN IT CAN EQUALLY PREVENT IT.

FiTinn is on this journey to revolutionize massive ENROLLMENT INTO EXERCISE PROGRAMS by getting people to understand the relevance of Exercise and Physical Therapy in keeping Fit and Healthy.

We are doing it. ✊

IMPROPER WAY OF LIFTING HEAVY OBJECTS FROM THE FLOOR; A COMMON CAUSE OF LOWER BACK PAINS.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Whilst there are many causes of lower back pain or waist pain, as popularly referred to, a major one of them is the IMPROPER WAY of lifting very heavy objects from the floor.

CASE STUDY: A young man decided to lift a very heavy machine from the floor. In the process, he felt a very sharp pain in his lower back accompanied by a popping sound. Instantly, he lost his ability to walk the normal way. His pains become severe on any attempt to walk --he had to be pronate the whole day.
Fortunately, FiTinn was close by and was called to come to intervene. FiTinn, upon preliminary observation and assessment, ruled out spinal injury. The most outstanding problem observed was the issue of STRAIN; either in a muscle or tendons.

Heavy objects must be lifted the right way, especially if we have to avoid injuries and putting ourselves through such pains.
You don't need to bend down to lift hervy objects, instead, you go into an almost-squat position to do so. With that position, the weight rests on your knee instead of the waist.
Bending down to lift heavy objects leads to overstretching of muscles and tendons. And you are highly likely to have a strain if your muscles are not flexible enough to accommodate the extra stress placed on it. Muscles and tendons have elastic limit, and any extra stress can lead to injury.

To be safe, you also need to practice some common and easy to do stretches at home; this goes to make you somehow fit and able to avoid some petty injuries.

BE FIT and HEALTHY.
