✨ 💉 Reaching the Unreached! 💉✨

On 11th August 2025, our dedicated Team at New Dormaa RCH embarked on a defaulter tracing exercise in the community. During their outreach, they encountered a household where the children had missed vital vaccines.

With the swift intervention of the Municipal Disease Control Officer, Mr Mansour Zacharia Mohammed, respectful engagement and dialogue built trust, and the father agreed to have his children vaccinated.

The children received their missed vaccines—RTSS, Yellow Fever, Measles-Rubella (1 & 2), and Meningitis — protecting them from preventable diseases.

In addition, one child was referred to the Sunyani Municipal Hospital for specialised care after being identified with special health needs.

This is a true reflection of commitment, teamwork, and dedication to safeguarding the health of our children, even in the face of challenges. 💪❤️

👏👏 Kudos to Team New Dormaa RCH for their outstanding effort in reaching the unreached!

Improving Paediatric and Maternal Health Through NOP Supportive Supervision🤱🤱

Earlier today, a team of dedicated specialists from the Sunyani Municipal Hospital visited the Abesim Health Centre, a Network of Practice (NOP) hub, as part of a clinical supportive supervision exercise. The visit aimed to strengthen service delivery by offering targeted technical support, mentorship, and guidance to frontline health workers.

The team led by Dr. Jennifer Asaman (Paediatrician), had Mrs. Mercy Fordjour (DCNMO/Matron), Dr. Evelyn Anafo (Medical Officer), Mrs. Abigail Amoakowaa (Kids Ward In-Charge), Ms. Agyei Pokuaah Bettina (RGN) and Mr. Twum-Damoah Enock, the NOP Coordinator for the municipality.

This supervision placed special emphasis on improving care for children and expectant mothers, two of the most vulnerable populations within our communities. Through case discussions, bedside coaching, and practical demonstrations, the team worked closely with the Abesim Health Centre staff to enhance the quality of care being provided.

The Network of Practice (NOP) model connects lower-level health facilities with municipal-level expertise, promoting shared learning and continuous quality improvement. Today’s visit is another testament to the collaborative effort toward a stronger, health care system. Ghana Health Service Adinkra Kyeremeh

Visit of Oakland University Students to Sunyani Municipality

On June 9th, 2025, the Municipal Director of Health Services, Dr. Adinkra Kyeremeh, officially welcomed a delegation of students from Oakland University to the Sunyani Municipality. Present at the event were heads of various units, staff members of the Municipal Health Directorate, and students from the College of Health–Yamfo.

Their activities include collaboration with local organisations, visits to healthcare facilities, and interactions with healthcare professionals to better understand the health challenges and systems in a developing country context. During their stay, the students will be stationed at various health facilities to observe and participate in public health service delivery across the municipality.

Sunyani Municipal Health Directorate Observes Menstrual Hygiene Day 2025

Menstrual Hygiene Day is observed annually on May 28 to raise awareness about the importance of good menstrual hygiene management. The theme for Menstrual Hygiene Day 2025 was “Together for a Period-Friendly World.” This theme emphasises the global commitment to eliminate the stigma surrounding menstruation and ensure that by 2030, menstruation is recognised as a normal and healthy part of life.

In line with this global agenda, the Sunyani Municipal Health Directorate joined the advocacy efforts by engaging with students in selected schools across the municipality. The schools visited included Abonsuam SDA Church, Methodist JHS Baakoniaba, St. Charles Lwanga School (Watchman), Atronie Roman Catholic School, Estate Experimental School, Abesim Presby A and B, Abesim SDA School, St. Mary’s School (Benu Nkwanta), among others.

During the outreach, students were educated on personal hygiene practices, with particular emphasis on menstrual hygiene. Practical demonstrations were conducted on the proper use of sanitary pads, and students were encouraged to maintain cleanliness during their menstrual cycles.

Maintaining good menstrual hygiene is vital for overall health. It helps prevent infections, reduces odours, and ensures comfort and dignity during menstruation.

The Sunyani Municipal Health Directorate remains committed to promoting menstrual health education and advocating for a stigma-free, period-friendly environment for all.
