Perfectionism: holding yourself to impossibly high standards so that nothing you do ever seems to be good enough.

The thing about it though is that perfectionism can be so cleverly masked as high performance, busyness or procrastination that you may not notice it’s there. It can manifest as anxiety, depression, chronic stress, lack of self-love, sleep disturbances, eating disorders, co-dependence, overcompensation, controlling behaviour, unwillingness to try for fear of failure, low self esteem, amongst others.

Know that you’re human first, with flaws and weaknesses, just as much as you have strengths. Bask in the knowledge of the full you and learn to appreciate yourself just as you are. Seek help from your support system or a professional when things become so overwhelming, your quality of life is affected.

It’s the month of March! How’re you doing so far with your 2023 health goals? For most people, as the year progresses, we begin to lose the vim to continue pursuing our objectives. Especially if it seems you aren’t getting results at the rate or pace you want. Motivation though is only one aspect of the fuel you need to achieve your dreams.

Habit. With habit, you grow in your pursuit of wellness to such an extent that your body and mind become subconsciously geared to do it when it’s time. It becomes a part of you. So, for example, drinking water regularly becomes a habit so that when you don’t drink enough, your mind and body prompts you automatically. Eating well and regularly becomes a habit: your mind prompts you when you get out of sync. Taking your medication on time…etc etc. You gerrit?

This month, aspire to developing habits that will propel your into achieving your health goals. Stay tuned for tips on how to develop healthy habits to keep you motivated.

Breakfast is an important meal but it doesn’t have to be large, fancy or expensive. Good breakfast helps put your mind and body in the right state for the day ahead.

If you’re not a fan of the “English” kind of breakfast, that’s fine. Just remember that no matter what you choose to have:

1. More doesn’t necessarily mean best. Moderate your portions
2. Opt for healthier alternatives with more veggies, fruits and less fatty portions
3. Plan ahead. You’re more likely to have healthier meals when you plan for them instead of when you wait till you’re hungry to decide.
