As another year dawns, most people look at this time as an opportunity for ‘fresh starts.’ New Years’ resolutions are made; diet plans, fitness regimens, dry January and other health kicks. These will no doubt result in one feeling healthier and possibly better about themselves. But what about our emotional health? We have all experienced emotionally challenging events. These may have resulted in hurt or suffering and may still be having an impact on your everyday life, sometimes even subconsciously. Unfortunately, these feelings are not going to vanish, like a fairy tale, as the clock strikes midnight. They aren’t going to explode with the last firework that goes off on the 1st January.
In the same way that we look at aspects of our physical health to start the year afresh, why not exercise some self-care on our emotional needs? We all experience difficulties. It is how we overcome these that sets us apart. Some of us are able to go at it alone, whilst some of us need a little support to help with overwhelming feelings.
January is statistically a challenging month - the most depressing day of the year and also the month in which most couples file for divorce in the U.K. Counselling can help you manage and cope with any overwhelming emotional difficulties. So in the same way that it is ‘ok’ to sign up to new fitness and diet plans, why not explore counselling as measure to improve your overall well-being?
