Is Court marriage More Powerful Than Traditional marriage?🙄🙄
This question keeps coming up.
Let me say it clearly,
YES it is.
Because, in the eyes of the law, court Marriage (statutory marriage) carries more legal weight than traditional or church wedding.
Traditional wedding is cultural.
Church wedding is religious.
But court wedding is LEGAL under the Nigerian Marriage Act.
Now here’s the part many people don’t know;
The only time a church wedding is equal to court marriage is when that church is a licensed place of worship and the marriage is conducted according to the Marriage Act with a certificate issued by the Registrar of Marriages.
If your church is not licensed, and you do a white wedding there without a prior registry wedding, you are not legally married, no matter how many songs you danced to that day.
So if anything happens, divorce, death, custody, or property dispute, you will not have the full protection of the law.
Love each other enough to make it legal.
Don’t just be married in the eyes of men, be married in the eyes of the law.
So if your marriage is only traditional or church, the law sees you as "cohabiting", not legally married...✔️
