The Gambia–Spain Youth Alliance has presented 25 street lights to support communities in the West Coast Region (WCR), in a gesture aimed at strengthening community infrastructure and enhancing public safety.

The lights were donated by a Spain NGO (Amigos de Gambia) in support of national development

The items were formally presented to the Governor of the West Coast Region and his Deputy during a brief ceremony attended by H.E Violeta Insa, Ambassador of Spain to The Gambia, together with the Alliance’s partner, Mr. Alpha Dem.

Speaking at the presentation, Ambassador Insa expressed appreciation to the Gambia–Spain Youth Alliance for its timely initiative, noting that such efforts reflect the spirit of cooperation and solidarity between the two nations. She reaffirmed the Embassy of Spain’s commitment to continue partnering with stakeholders in The Gambia in support of initiatives that promote community development and improve the wellbeing of citizens.

Receiving the donation on behalf of the regional administration, the Governor of the West Coast Region conveyed gratitude to the Alliance and, by extension, to the people and Government of Spain for their continued friendship and cooperation with The Gambia. He assured that the street lights would be distributed to deserving communities across the region to enhance safety and development.

The Governor further expressed hope that such collaborative efforts would continue to grow, strengthening the longstanding bilateral relations and shared commitment to sustainable development between The Gambia and Spain.

Spanish Prime Minister Tells Trump: ‘No to War’ as Madrid Rejects Use of Bases for Iran Conflict”

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez has firmly reaffirmed his government’s commitment to peace and diplomacy following criticism from U.S. President Donald Trump over Spain’s refusal to allow the use of its military bases for operations linked to the conflict with Iran.

Sánchez emphasized that Spain’s position is guided by international law and historical lessons, stating, “We must learn from history and cannot play Russian roulette with the fate of millions of people.” He made clear that the government does not support any regime, but instead prioritizes peace over military escalation.

The prime minister’s statement came after Trump publicly criticized Madrid and hinted at potential economic repercussions. Sánchez warned that further military action would not bring benefits such as higher wages or better public services, but would instead increase global uncertainty and energy prices.

Summarizing Spain’s stance, Sánchez said: “No to undermining international law… No to assuming armed conflict is the only solution… No to repeating the mistakes of the past. In short: no to war.”

Spain’s position aligns with its previous approach in international crises, including Ukraine, Gaza, and Venezuela, underscoring the country’s dedication to diplomacy and global stability.
