Yogasana practice from this morning at the in

We focused on balance and twists. I mainly wanted to help us reach a point where we could work deeper in the seated twists and we did that. I rarely teach Bharadvajasana (12) but today it felt appropriate and people responded well to it.

For context: this is a class where I never know the people that will participate, being for people on holidays, so I developed a very flexible structure and range of posture that are easily adapted last minute according to the people in the class.

Try this practice with a smooth long exhale and if you are comfortable with breath holds, then pause the breath after the exhale for a few second (whatever allows you to maintain the rhythm).

And sometimes I just feel plain stupid, like "why can I not get this? Why am I not being able to do that? Why does this feel so hard?".

And sometimes I totally get arrogant and actually think I know something completely as if there is nothing else to know there.

Thankfully I have learned to move past these, and they are mostly temporary acurances. And when I take too long I get a nudge from life itself, either in the form of a beautiful soul or through a kick in the ass, sometimes a beautiful soul kicking me in the ass 馃馃ぃ.

This is what you could call a minimal workout. If you wanted to do the least possible moments to give you the most return in terms of overall function, strength and crossover to daily activities/sports, then these 4 would be my suggestion:

Squats
Lunges
Deeps
Pull ups

Each movement can be developed in micro-cycles for muscular endurance and strength.

Here combined with running and cycling they offer a really nice conditioning session.

Morning workout?
Choose a level, then choose the weight and level of difficulty of each exercise according to your capacity.

With this one you can keep the tempo of each exercise nice and smooth for a challenging but controlled workout, OR go all each each station doing as many reps as you can ...and risk collapsing half way through 馃ぃ馃あ.

Done with TRX and some free weights.

Today is International Yoga Day. My "celebration" is in deep contemplation as I live today like any other day. I am sure to "loose" it and get "it" back several times.....
Today also marks the day of birth of a great teacher, Desikachar. He was the teacher of Paul Harvey, which has been my main teacher for many years.

This picture is from Melkote (India). I was there some time ago to study and connect deeper with lived traditions in yoga. By the time this picture was taken I had done my Surya Namaskara practice, we as a group had changed as the sun was rising, and had practiced Asana for about 90 minutes. As I did my pranayama practice I remember being tired, energised, mentally challenged, breath shorter than usual, hips uncomfortable, with deep reverence to the space and the process we were sharing.

For all those who practice yoga , my heart is with you. For all those in suffering my life is with you.
