CREATING THE FEELING OF GRATITUDE

One of the best ways to create positivity and optimism is to invoke the feeling of gratitude.

An interview published on the abc news states:

"If [thankfulness] were a drug, it would be the world's best-selling product with a health maintenance indication for every major organ system," said Dr. P. Murali Doraiswamy, head of the division of biologic psychology at Duke University Medical Center.

While the act of being thankful is not a substitute for a proper medical diagnosis and treatment, Doraiswamy said it's certainly a strategy that can be used to enhance wellness.
Studies have shown measurable effects on multiple body and brain systems, said Doraiswamy. Those include mood neurotransmitters (serotonin, norepinephrine), reproductive hormones (testosterone), social bonding hormones (oxytocin), cognitive and pleasure related neurotransmitters (dopamine), inflammatory and immune systems (cytokines), stress hormones (cortisol), cardiac and EEG rhythms, blood pressure, and blood sugar.

Fertility and stress
Scientific research done up to now has shown that stress can negatively impact the ability to get pregnant. A woman going through the infertility treatment has to deal with stress on many levels; stress before and after the exams, stress about the Assisted Reproduction Technology outcome, stress related to dealing with the partner, stress about dealing with family &friends etc. Women with more biomarkers for stress in their saliva had less of a chance of getting pregnant during ovulation than women with fewer biomarkers for stress, and that women with higher levels of cortisol in their bodies had an increased risk of miscarriage.
All the practices of yoga help the body to be more healthy, balanced and full of vitality, the mind to be more relaxed and positive. By applying the principles and practices of yoga in everyday life, one learns how to stay more receptive, positive and balanced. That creates a positive step towards pregnancy and healthy delivery.

Fertility and Sterility Journal states:
Stress negatively affects reproductive outcomes in IVF cycles and this study suggests YOGA can be an adjuvant to improve the pregnancy rates in couples undergoing ART.

When done correctly and with awareness, they can correct the imbalance of the endocrine system, which has a major influence on the reproductive system, as well as on our mental, emotional states. What to do when you are trying to conceive?🤰🏻

Going through the process of getting pregnant is not always a smooth ride. Sometimes it does not just happen, and an extra effort, time, and lots of patience are needed. So how to help this process? Here are some tools which might help you to navigate through this process and stay in balance.

Take care of your body
Balanced diet:
Eat healthy nutritious food🥦🥕🥬🍎🫐🥝
Have a variety of food on your menu according to the needs of your body.

Move:
Walk daily, do any form of exercise which make you move🚴🏻‍♀️🏃‍♀️

Tune into your body:
Practice yoga. 🧘‍♀️🕉 This will enable you to feel and connect to your body on a deeper level and balance the body.

Breathe💨
Deep breathing enables all the systems of the body to work better. It also affects your mind, the deeper the breathing, the calmer the mind.

Relax💆🏻‍♀️
Use the techniques such as Satyananda yoga nidra practice. It is a technique of deep relaxation which allow you to release the tension on a physical, mental, and emotional level.

Meditate🧘🏻‍♀️
Meditation techniques allow you to relax and calm the mind. They allow you to become aware of your inner world, and find the best way to keep balanced and positive in daily life.

Regulate your lifestyle:
Balance the work – rest time 👩🏻‍💻
Set time for yourself only🧖🏻‍♀️
Be aware of the hours of sleep that you need daily💤

Remember that with all these changes you are helping yourself to keep in balance on the physical, mental and emotional level and that is the first step towards getting pregnant and bringing into the world healthy and happy babies. 👶🏼

Swami Savikalpananda Saraswati is a midwife and a yoga teacher. She has been teaching the Satyananda system of yoga for more than 30 years in Greece, based at Satyanandashram Hellas, Paiania, which is the base for Satyananda Yoga in Greece. Her specialization is yoga for women (Yoga and perimenopause and menopause, pre and post-natal Yoga and Yoga and fertility) and mantra yoga (the application of sound and music). She is conducting seminars and talks in Greece and abroad on a variety of topics. She teaches in the Paiania ashram and the Satyananda Yoga meditation centers. 🙏🏻📿🕉
