A child engages in play because it is rewarded with pleasure, without knowing that this mechanism is programmed by nature to make it learn.

There is a natural tendency to learn which can only be fulfilled through play. Pleasure is the ultimate mechanism that the procedure of learning is being disguised and urges the child to meet its goal. Like hunger urges it to eat.

So yeah its bigger that just a set of moves, its playing, exploring, learning, being in flux.

Conversations with the rock :

How can i transfer my weight?
How do i coordinate myself in order to get from point A to point B ? Is a dynamic movement the only way to get the momentum to get there ?
How can i balance?
How long can i hold on ? Do i need to back up and reroute?
How do i adapt in this new enviroment? What do i change ?
What do i do when moving forward seems impossible?

Inoperativity

The concept of Agamben's inoperativity has frequently been misinterpreted as mere inactivity: a passive and complete absence of all work. What it truly proposes is the possibility of pausing a function suspending its established meaning and opening up its potentiality.

The inoperative operation is connected with the concept of the "end" and the "happy life". But the "end" doesnt recommend the teleological completion or the wholeness, neither includes the negative part of distraction and extinction. Instead the way of achieving the "end" is the practice of inoperativity through a process of inactivation and diversion of the function but also through its liberation to new practices.

How all this connects to the body and movement? Inoperativity as a form of movement practice disturbs the established functions of the body as well as the dualistic views on mind-body, shifting the action from enforcing the duality, into opening up new possibilities/qualities.

Back to the roots ! Designing sequences with at Athens Center Of Capoeira Corpo Fechado breaking it down and polishing the craft. Sometimes restrictions can really favor creativity and provide ideas to connect movements. Inventiveness is what gets the work done despite the limitations.

In between classes and training i have bit more free time at the moment which i intend utilise to write some posts about the body/movement/teaching and the self. Wow Wow hang in there buddy those are some big topics! Alrighty then lets take it slowly.
I'll start by explaining some things about the name of this page.

Why synapsis ?

Synapse is the specialized anatomic connection between two neurons, where the one affects and regulates the function of the other. Or simply we can say that its the way of communication between neurons. Nough said.

Why movement?

We move even before we are actually born. 'Human movement is about the interaction between the mover and the enviroment and should be taught in ways that articulate and understand that significance'. Learning to interact is present from birth and from that moment the direction of the developement of the human depends on personal, physical and cultural constraints. So each and every one of us develops his own particular 'Movement alphabet' thus being physically literate should be considered inherent to human flourishing instead of being a state of possesing a fixed set of motor skills.

And so synapsis movement is an attempt to find the connections between movement practices (sports, somatic practices, dance, martial arts etc) and reestablish their importance and value as core human needs for our psychological, physical, cognitive, cultural well being. But most importantly synapsis movement is an invitation to play and celebrate life.

Thanks to everyone that supported me throughout the years and attended my classes. I hope you are taking a good care of yourself.

Synapsis Movement

Synapsis means ‘conjuction’ to ‘fasten together’, to ‘connect’. In the same way we aim to connect body and mind through movement.

Synapsis Movement aims at improving whole body connectivity, balance, strength, proprioception, flexblity, interoception, body awareness. Based on the holistic approach of the yoga system combining it with movement practices such as embodied and somatic practices/dance/sports/martial arts.

Most importantly to create vital, strong and adaptable bodies to improve quality of life, postural habits, athletic performance and artistic expression through the body.

No need for previous experience, contact us for group sessions, personal training and start your movement practice with us.
