Hellebore is a deceptively beautiful plant with poisonous properties. Many dangers are associated with using this plant. According to the ancient physician Dioscorides, the digger of the plant must eat garlic beforehand, face east and pray to Apollo and Asclepius when removing the root from the soil. Among many medicinal uses, Dioscorides recommended the plant for the insane.

On Saturday, April 9, 2024, the Herbalists Without Borders Athens, Greece Chapter hosted a public groundbreaking garden event to establish The Dioscorides Garden on the iconic grounds of Zappeion. More than 30 participants joined the event on a beautiful spring day in Athens. Parents and children worked together to prepare the garden beds and plant 35 medicinal herbs significant to ancient medicine.

On Saturday, April 9, 2024, the Herbalists Without Borders, Athens Chapter hosted a public groundbreaking garden event to establish The Dioscorides Garden on the iconic grounds of Zappeion.
