What Yoga Therapy can do for people with Parkinson's disease?
We focus on a better posture, balance, transfers, walking as well as less depression or anxiety.
We strengthen the back muscles and to open the chest since they have low mood, restricted breathing capacity and tendency for kyphosis.
We also enhance inhalation to build up prana/ energy due to fatigue and the hypokinetic character of Parkinsons, keeping IN=EX in a morning practice, unless there is hypertension.
We also focus on bringing awareness to extremities.
We definitely incorporate stronger and expansive asanas such as warrior I, in movement and with many repetitions as in Physiotherapy.
Rhythmical cues through loud chanting can be given in order to keep them awake and alert and facilitate movement.
