🧠 Creating and appreciating art can stimulate our social brains!

According to a recent study by neuroscientist Janneke van Leeuwen, art interpretation stimulates blood flow in the same brain regions involved in social connection.

The exciting implication of this research is that art has a BIOLOGICAL function. Beyond entertaining and inspiring us, art can also help us make sense of our social world.

The World Health Organization has published treatment guidelines - Psychological Interventions Implementation Manual - with recommendations that predominantly endorse behavior therapy (BT) and cognitive-behavior therapy (CBT). This overlooks the significant evidence supporting other therapeutic approaches, including but not limited to psychodynamic therapy. It's likely that these guidelines will restrict access to those approaches by giving insurers, clinics, and policy makers a justification for denying coverage for all but the mostly short-term, structured and symptom-focused treatments.
The Psychotherapy Action Network (PsiAN) has drafted a petition to the WHO, asking them to preserve access to evidence-based therapy. Please take a minute to read and consider signing - and share widely.
The petition supports a comprehensive letter to the WHO written by an international group of psychotherapy outcome researchers. We thank the researchers for their letter, and their work in studying therapy outcomes and creating the evidence base that shows the efficacy of psychodynamic therapy.
PsiAN asks that the WHO include psychodynamic therapies in its guidelines and add psychodynamic researchers and experts to its guidelines development group.

Η οριακή (μεταιχμιακή) διαταραχή προσωπικότητας είναι μια παρατεταμένη διατάραξη της λειτουργίας της προσωπικότητας ενός ατόμου. Οι οριακοί ασθενείς χαρακτηρίζονται από ασυνήθιστα επίπεδα αστάθειας στη διάθεση, στο συναίσθημα, στη συμπεριφορά και στην εικόνα εαυτού τους. Βρίσκονται στο μεταίχμιο νεύρωσης και ψύχωσης και μπορεί να εκδηλώνουν παρορμητικότητα, αυτοκτονικές πράξεις, αυτοακρωτηριασμούς, προβλήματα ταυτότητας και αισθήματα κενού. Η διαταραχή μπορεί να έχει επιπτώσεις σε πολλές όψεις της ζωής του ατόμου, κάτι που συνεπάγεται δυσκολίες στη διατήρηση των οικογενειακών, των επαγγελματικών και γενικότερα των κοινωνικών σχέσεων.

Στο προσεχές συνέδριο της EMDR Europe με τους συναδέλφους Ελένη Παπαδομαρκάκη, Πέννη Παπαδοπούλου & Αναστάσιο Χαραλαμπάκη θα παρουσιαστεί η αναρτημένη ανακοίνωση με θέμα" Η αποτελεσματικότητα της EMDR τεχνικής στο σύνθετο τραύμα". Πρόκειται για μια συστηματική ανάλυση από ηλεκτρονικές βάσεις δεδομένων, συμπεριλαμβανομένων των PubMed, PsycINFO και Web of Science. Αξιολογήθηκαν ποσοτικά μετρήσιμα αποτελέσματα, όπως οι αλλαγές στα συμπτώματα PTSD, η διαχωριστικότητα και η κατάθλιψη. Η μεθοδολογική ποιότητα και ο κίνδυνος μεροληπτικότητας εκτιμήθηκαν χρησιμοποιώντας καθιερωμένα κριτήρια. Είμαστε πολύ χαρούμενοι με τα νέα.
