" AITHIR "
ETYMOLOGY AND MEANING.
The word Aithir comes from the verb aitho, which means to burn, to shine, to be bright ...
That is, it means the bright, the luminous, the pure element that fills the sky.
In ancient Greek cosmology, the world consisted of five elements:
1. Earth (Gaia)
2. Water (Water)
3. Air (Air)
4. Fire (Fire)
5. And the fifth, Aether — the most subtle, pure and divine of all...
💡 For Aristotle, Aithir was the celestial element, the essence of the stars and the gods, indestructible and eternal, in contrast to the four earthly elements that are born and decay.
That is, Aithir is the essence of Heaven...
For the Pythagoreans and Platonists, Aithir was the medium that connects the spiritual with the material, the light of the world, the breath of God...
In mythology, Aithir is personified as a deity:
Son of Erebus and Night, brother of Day...
It represents the pure light of heaven, which the gods breathe, in contrast to the simple air of men.
IN POETRY AND IN MODERN CONCEPT
Aithir symbolizes:
The light of the soul...
The transparency of existence...
The spiritual field that unites all beings...
Today, it is used poetically to denote:
The immaterial, the divine, the eternal light that permeates everything...
A POETICAL INTERPRETATION...
Aithir is neither air nor light;
it is the breath of the universe,
the transparent veil that unites gods and men,
where souls remember their light..."
