What is royal jelly and what does it contain:
Royal jelly is the equivalent of breast milk for bees. Produced by the hypopharyngeal glands located on the head of worker bees and the first three days of their life, in the egg stage, it is the only food of queens, in their whole life and of all bees only the first three days. The workers are then fed a mixture of royal jelly, pollen and honey while the queen will continue to be fed only royal jelly throughout her life. Therefore the differentiation of the genus that the same egg that was intended for a worker bee if it changes on the third day or its diet and continues to feed continuously with royal jelly will be completed as an insect queen and not a worker.
Gender differentiation is therefore only due to food.
It is the royal jelly that determines, at a very early stage of development, whether the tiny larva will become a queen capable of laying up to 2000 eggs a day (2.5 times its weight!) Or a sterile worker. Also, the queen who feeds all her life only with royal jelly lives up to 7 years while the adult worker 26 days to 4 months.
Royal jelly which as we have seen is a complete food for the queen bee is a complex substance. It consists of 60-70% water, 12-15% protein, 10-16% sugars (fructose, glucose, sucrose, etc.), 2-8% lipids with the most important 10-hydroxy-decenoic acid, minerals, enzymes , hormones (testosterone, progesterone, estradiol), 29 amino acids, antimicrobials, vitamins (A, D, E, K and especially vitamins B), acetylcholine and cholesterol but also another steroid substance, the action of which is not yet well known .
All the ingredients of royal jelly act synergistically and show a variety of biochemical properties and actions.
How it reaches us:
Making royal jelly is an easy task for the bee but difficult for the beekeeper.
It requires specialized training in the method and is a very laborious process with low product yield and high cost in working hours and equipment.
The handling of the royal jelly from the beekeeper to the customer must be done with isothermal containers with ice packs to ensure its continuous cooling.
Why should I get royal jelly:
Without being a magic elixir, however, royal jelly is not a simple dietary supplement.
Royal jelly has spectacular effects on the defense (immune system) of his body, on his mental and physical stimulation and well-being but also on libido. These benefits are observed in a healthy person after the first 20 days of daily intake of royal jelly.
However, royal jelly has been featured in a growing number of scientific studies on a variety of ailments.
The following have a very significant beneficial effect:
In the so-called metabolic syndrome (type II diabetes, high cholesterol and lipids, heart disease-vascular diseases, high blood pressure, etc.) and in endocrine disorders in general.
In autoimmune diseases (rheumatism, multiple sclerosis, arthritis, psoriasis, hypothyroidism, etc.) and allergies.
In menopause where it reduces the adverse symptoms due to the hormones it contains and protects against osteoporosis due to the production of collagen which it promotes, always with proper nutrition.
Gives health and youthful appearance to the skin (increased collagen production).
In neurodegenerative and neurological diseases and even injuries because it promotes the regeneration of nerve cells and protects them.
Indicatively, I mention an alphabetical list of diseases or adverse conditions in which it has been scientifically announced that it has a beneficial effect or even therapeutic value:
Allergies, anemia, impotence, asthma, arthritis, atherosclerosis, liver disease, poor memory, insomnia, autoimmune diseases, diabetes and general endocrine disorders and hormonal dysfunctions, mental fatigue, degenerative diseases, ulcers, menopause, viral and bacterial infections, growth retardation, depression, skin spots and wrinkles panic or anxiety attacks, renal failure, neurodegenerative diseases and injuries of the central nervous system, central nervous system and myocardial infarction infertility, coronary heart disease, infertility, malnutrition, high cholesterol and blood lipids, inflammation, chronic constipation, low blood pressure but also hypertension, chronic fatigue.
Contraindications:
Unless someone is allergic to royal jelly, no side effects have been reported for the recommended dose.
If unpleasant symptoms appear after consuming royal jelly (itching in the mouth, rashes, nausea, diarrhea) we stop taking royal jelly and consult an allergist.
Its use in pregnant and lactating mothers and in infants and toddlers under three years, should be done with the consent of a doctor. Finally, some recommend avoiding its use in hormone-dependent cancers.
How to use - Dosage:
Royal jelly has a whitish to pale yellow color, wet and shiny appearance and slightly creamy texture. Its taste is intensely sour and burns in the throat.
Preserve the pulp in the freezer (-18o C) and keep in the refrigerator the jar (usually 10 grams) that we consume.
We do not use a metal spoon but a plastic one.
There are special teaspoons for royal jelly that are provided with the jar and also act in doses. Ask if it is 250 or 500 mg (1/4 or ½ gram).
The usual dose varies from ¼ gram to one gram, depending on the body weight and needs of the adult and the pulp should be taken daily for 3-4 months. In some cases your doctor may recommend a higher dose. A five-year-old is covered with the above with 1/8 of a gram (125 mg) unless the doctor recommends more.
We take the pulp in the morning fasting. We can, if we do not like its taste, add it to a teaspoon of honey.
Avoid buying honey mixtures with royal jelly. The right thing is for us to do the mixing and to know what and how much we have put.
