“Happy Girls” by Harriet. Girls should be happy all over the world and Harriet knows how to help girls in Bufuka. What’s Happening at Happy Girls Project in Bufuka. The Happy Girls Project is a grassroots organization based in Rutinda, near Lake Bunyonyi, Kabale. They’re dedicated to ending period poverty, empowering girls—and they recently ran a workshop at Bufuka Primary School  .
Their flagship efforts include:
• Teaching girls to sew reusable sanitary pads
• Distributing menstrual products
• Educating communities on menstrual hygiene and gender-based violence   .
So far, they’ve reached 1,500+ girls and women, distributed 5,000+ menstrual products, and visited around 50 locations with their workshops .
Why This Matters in Buffuka
• Bufuka, a small village on the eastern shore of Lake Bunyonyi just 7 km from Kabale town, hosts a primary school steeped in history—it originated from the local Protestant church and dates back to 1938 .
Bringing menstrual health education and access to feminine hygiene products into these rural school settings is transformative—it’s about keeping girls in school, safe and confident.
