Ολιστική θεραπεία - holistic therapies

Throughout our studies, Athena and I resonated deeply with the concept of holism - a philosophy whose name stems from the Greek word holos, meaning ‘whole’, and stresses - as for instance in an ecosystem - the importance of all different factors to be viewed in their entirety and interconnectedness, and not just on their own.

In holistic therapies, no one single symptom, illness or personal problem is looked at, as something to be treated separately, but as something with ramifications into all spheres of life of the individual, be they physical, emotional, social, mental or even spiritual. Every symptom has its own history, that needs to be teased out, carefully explored, reflected upon, in order to get the whole picture - a rich tapestry of events, interactions, symptoms that often baffles the mind, keeps a person stuck in a pattern, and is made of the very factors that can undo it, reshape it and make it disappear, once these often deep processes are recognised and can be touched with the help of a word, a shared insight or a homeopathic remedy.

We all have a force within us, that creates our health and also the symptoms of our illnesses. Healing takes a team approach, involving patient and therapist, to find out, what is blocked and what needs to be shifted, for that the ‘waters of life’ keep flowing again, and the wider cause of the condition can be removed, leading to deep healing, without mere alleviation of symptoms, and avoiding a recurrence.

Because our life experiences, the way we give meaning to them, and the disease conditions we create, are inevitably intertwined, we cannot undo one of the strands, without considering and tease appart as well the others, if we want to see ourselves unreduced, in the fullness of our being.
