A beekeeper’s primary duty is to care for the colony, keeping the hive healthy, safe, and productive.
When bees are well looked after, they reward us with nature’s treasures. 🍯🐝
On inspection day, the very first thing we check is whether the queen is still present and actively laying eggs.Her presence is vital,without her, there are no new larvae, and the colony can’t survive.
Every strong hive starts with a strong queen.

Θα επισκεφθούμε ένα πραγματικό μελισσοκομείο, θα φορέσουμε τη στολή του μελισσοκόμου, θα μάθουμε για τη ζωή της μέλισσας και θα ψάξουμε τη Βασίλισσα! 👑🐝
Θα μάθουμε από κοντά τι περιλαμβάνει η καθημερινότητα ενός μελισσοκόμου. 🧑‍🌾

Αργότερα, στο 🏡 Κτήμα Πάνακρον θα δοκιμάσετε μερικές από τις διαφορετικές ποικιλίες μελιού που παράγουμε 🍯 και θα απολαύσετε δροσερή σπιτική λεμονάδα 🍋 και παραδοσιακά εδέσματα με μέλι 🍪🍰

Q: What should I do if my honey crystallizes?

A: Don’t toss it! that’s natural!
Crystallization is a sign of pure honey. Just place the jar in a bowl of warm water (not boiling!) and stir gently until smooth.
Avoid microwaving, cause it can damage the enzymes and flavor. But if you do please remove the lid!
Embrace the crystals !

A: Honey color depends on the nectar source. Flowerr honey is light and mild, while pine honey is dark and bold. Even in the same area, seasonal blooms affect flavor and color. It’s like nature’s signature in every jar!

Q: How many bees are in a hive?

A: A healthy hive can have between 20,000 and 60,000 bees during peak season! It’s a buzzing city in there, with a single queen, thousands of female worker bees, and a few male drones. Each bee plays a vital role in keeping the hive alive and thriving.

Q: How do bees collect nectar?

A: Foragers use their long, straw-like tongues (called proboscis) to sip nectar from flowers. They store it in their honey stomachs, separate from their digestive stomach. Once full, they fly back to the hive to pass it on to house bees, who then transform it into honey.

Q: How do honeybees communicate with each other?

A: Bees have their own buzz-worthy language!
They use pheromones (chemical signals) and a fascinating movement called the waggle dance to tell others where to find food.
The angle and length of the dance communicate distance and direction to nectar sources. Nature’s little GPS!

Q: Where should I store my honey so it lasts?

A: Keep your honey in a tightly sealed glass jar, stored at room temperature in a dark, dry place, like a pantry. No need to refrigerate it! In fact, refrigeration speeds up crystallization. Just keep it away from heat and sunlight to preserve its flavor and texture.

These are some of the most common questions we get during our bee tours!!

Q: When does honey expire?

A: Honey never really expires! If stored properly, honey can last for centuries. Its natural low moisture, high acidity, and hydrogen peroxide content makes it nearly impossible for bacteria and mold to grow. Archaeologists have even found edible honey in ancient Egyptian tombs!
though over time honey may “darken and lose its aroma and flavor or crystallize,” depending on changes in temperature.
