Fun Facts about breastfeeding PART 2! 🎉

Unless there is a known pathology, there is no woman who does not "have milk", there is only a lack of education and support from the environment.
A newborn's stomach is the size of a cherry and therefore they do not need large amounts of milk in the first 24 hours!
Mother's bodies make exactly the correct amount of breastmilk for their baby at any given time 🤰😊

Let's start off with some fun facts about breastfeeding and breastmilk!
Did you know that your body may start to produce breastmilk as early as 20 weeks into your pregnancy?
Also, if you decide to "harvest" your colostrum (first milk) before birth you will not "run out". Your body makes exactly the amount of breastmilk your baby needs at any given time. Many women choose to harvest and store breastmilk before birth in order to help with their baby's transition to life outside the womb!

Starting off with some Fun Facts about breastfeeding and breastmilk!
Did you know that your body can start producing breastmilk from as early as 20 weeks gestation?
Also, if you decide to "harvest" colostrum- the first milk- you will not run out! Your body makes exactly what your baby needs at each given time! Many women choose too harvest colostrum before birth in order to make their baby's transition to the outside world a little easier!

🇬🇧 As a midwife traversing my first pregnancy I really do feel like the universe has given me a little bit of almost every pregnancy symptoms under the Sun, which is only fair of course! 😅
So let's have a little look at the most common symptoms in pregnancy, and maybe some not so common ones that many women experience in their first and second trimesters!
1. Food cravings
2.Fatigue
3. Nausea and vomiting
4. Heartburn (or unforgiving lava chest!)
5. Mood swings
6. Puffy feet and hands
7. Inability to cope with the heat
8. Extreme hunger that comes on suddenly, like if we don't eat, we will die!
That is just a few of the wonderful things pregnancy has given me over the past few months! How about you? Comment below some of your pregnancy symptoms that kept you on your toes! 🤰

🇬🇷 Ως μαία που διανύω την πρώτη μου εγκυμοσύνη, πραγματικά νιώθω ότι το σύμπαν μου έχει δώσει λίγο από σχεδόν όλα τα συμπτώματα εγκυμοσύνης που υπάρχουν, κάτι που είναι φυσικά δίκαιο! 😅
Ας ρίξουμε μια ματιά στα πιο κοινά συμπτώματα της εγκυμοσύνης και ίσως και σε κάποια λιγότερο συνηθισμένα που πολλές γυναίκες βιώνουν κατά το πρώτο και δεύτερο τρίμηνο!
1. Λιγούρες
2. Κούραση
3. Ναυτία και έμετος
4. Καούρες (ή αδυσώπητη λάβα στο στήθος!)
5. Αλλαγές διάθεσης
6. Πρησμένα πόδια και χέρια
7. Αδυναμία να αντεπεξέλθουμε στη ζέστη
8. Ακραία πείνα που έρχεται ξαφνικά, λες και αν δε φάμε και θα πεθάνουμε!
Αυτά είναι μερικά μόνο από τα θαυμάσια πράγματα που η εγκυμοσύνη μου έχει προσφέρει τους τελευταίους μήνες! Εσύ; Σχολίασε παρακάτω μερικά από τα συμπτώματα της εγκυμοσύνης σου που σε κράτησαν σε εγρήγορση!🤰

Ώρα για εξομολόγηση!
Είμαι η Ρίτσα, είμαι μαία με εμπειρία 10 χρόνων στη μαιευτική και περιμένω το πρώτο μου μωρό. Όλοι μου έχουν πει ότι "αφού εσύ είσαι μαία θα είσαι μια χαρά!" και "εσυ τα ξέρεις οπότε δεν πρέπει να αγχώνεσαι" και πράγματι ξέρω ότι για πολλές συναδέλφους αυτό ισχύει. Για μένα όμως οι γνώσεις που έχω δεν με βοήθησαν τόσο, είναι λες και το λογικό μέρος του κεφαλιού μου έχει κλείσει όσον αφορά τη δική μου εγκυμοσύνη και έχω άγχος με το παραμικρό!
Μπορώ να πω πλέον ότι καταλαβαίνω όλο το αγχος που έχετε περάσει κατά καιρούς και συμπάσχω περισσότερο απόσο ξέρετε!
Χαίρομαι που μπορώ να μπιραστώ την εμπειρία αυτή με όλες τις γυναίκες με τις οποίες έχω συνεργαστεί τα τελευταία χρόνια!
Να ξέρετε, με σώζετε κάθε μερα ❤️ Εσείς και ο συντροφός μου με την υπομονή του μου δίνετε δύναμη και με επαναφέρετε στην πραγματικότητα 😅🥹

Confession Time!
I am Ritsa, I am a midwife with 10 years of experience and I am expecting my first baby. Everyone has told me that "since you are a midwife, you will be just fine!" and "you already know it, so you shouldn't worry" and indeed, I know this is true for many of my colleagues. However, for me, the knowledge I have has not helped that much; it’s as if the logical part of my brain has shut down regarding my own pregnancy and I feel anxious over the slightest thing!
I can now say that I understand all the anxiety you have experienced over time and I empathize more than you know! I am glad that I can share this experience with all the women I have worked with over the past years! Know that you save me every day ❤️ You and my partner with his patience give me strength and bring me back to reality 😅🥹

Makes sure you stay cool and hydrated in the summer months! Looks out for signs of dehydration like fatigue, swelling and sometimes even diarrhea and nausea.
It is best to avoid swimming during the middle of the day. Prefer times before 11am and after 5pm!⛱⛵️🤰🧜‍♀️

Καλό καλοκαίρι μανούλες!
Φροσντίστε να μείνετε δροσιμένες και ενυδατωμένες τις ώρες τις ημέρας το καλοκαιράκι! Προσέξτε για τυχόν συμπτώματα αφυδάτωσης όπως μπορεί να είναι η υπερβολική κούραση, το οίδημα ειδικά στα πόδια αλλά ακόμη και η διάρροια και η ναυτία!
Να αποφευγετε τα μπάνια τις μεσημεριανές ώρες. Αντίθετα να προτιμάτε πρωινές ώρες πριν τις 11πμ και μετά τις 5-6μμ!⛱⛵️🤰🧜‍♀️

🇬🇧How lucky we are to live in a time where Father's not only want to, but expect to be involved in the upbringing of their children. Father's want to play a more active role in the decision making and spend more time with their children than ever before!
Shout out to all the Dad's fighting against old stereotypes, the Dad's who want to be parents and not "babysit" their children when Mum isn't around!

🇬🇷Πόσο τυχεροί είμαστε που ζούμε σε μια εποχή όπου ο πατέρας όχι μόνο θέλει, αλλά αναμένει να εμπλακεί στην ανατροφή των παιδιών του. Ο πατέρας θέλει να παίξει πιο ενεργό ρόλο στη λήψη αποφάσεων και να περάσει περισσότερο χρόνο με τα παιδιά του από ποτέ!
Μπράβο σε όλους τους μπαμπάδες που αγωνίζονται ενάντια στα παλιά στερεότυπα, τους μπαμπάδες που θέλουν να είναι γονείς και να μην «προσέχουν» απλά τα παιδιά τους όταν η μαμά δεν είναι εκεί!
