Hnouring Timelessness & Profound Wisdom... 🙏✨ ~~
August 9 is International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples.
Let us collectively celebrate the International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples. Let's value their rich cultural heritage, advocate for their rights, and foster initiatives aimed at sustainable development and cultural preservation.
There are two major IP groups in Panay and Negros - the Ati/Ata and the Panay Bukidnon.
The Panay Bukidnon reside in central Panay mountain areas. They are known for their epic chant, Sugidanon/Hinilawod, and their traditional embroidery, panubók. Panubók is a colorful visual composition of patterns influenced by nature, lifestyle, and epic chants.
The Panay Bukidnon are also known for the binanog, a courtship dance inspired by the movements of the banog, or hawk. Their traditional musical instruments include Tikumbo, a bamboo percussion and chordophone. It is played by striking the bamboo lid with one or two fingers and alternating with strumming the strings.
Let us enrich our knowledge about our indigenous peoples, and build a community that embraces and respects diversity.
Visit and learn about Panay Bukidnon at our Haból Panay Gallery. We are open every day from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Entrance is FREE.
