Inclusive sports don’t improve by accident.
They improve through evaluation, feedback and reflection.

Taking time to listen to participants helps us understand what worked, what didn’t, and what barriers might still exist. Even small insights can lead to better activities, better adaptations and more meaningful participation.

Evaluation doesn’t have to be complicated. A short discussion after the activity, a quick form or a simple feedback circle can already make a big difference.

Because inclusive sports are not static.
They grow when we listen, learn and adapt.

Did you know that accessibility in sport does not simply mean physical access?

It’s not only about ramps, elevators or adapted equipment. Accessibility also includes how activities are organised, who makes decisions, what language is used, and what attitudes shape participation.

Sometimes exclusion is not visible. It can appear as low expectations, rigid rules, poor communication, or the idea that disabled people are “extra responsibility”.

In community inclusive sports, accessibility means removing both physical and social barriers. It means designing spaces where no one has to fight to belong.

Because exclusion is not always about stairs.
Sometimes it’s about mindset.

Integration and inclusion are often used as if they mean the same thing. But they’re not.

Integration usually means that disabled people are invited into structures that already exist. The system stays as it is. If someone can adapt to it, they participate. If not, the responsibility quietly falls back on them.

Inclusion starts much earlier. It asks who is involved in the design, whose needs are considered from the beginning, and who holds decision-making power. Accessibility is not something added later. It is part of the foundation. Barriers are examined and removed, instead of expecting people to change.

In community inclusive sports, this distinction really matters. It is not enough to open the door. We need to rethink how activities are created, how teams are formed, and how leadership is shared.

Inclusion is not about being welcoming.
It is about changing structures so everyone belongs.

Not everyone wants to be a champion.

In community inclusive sports, value is not measured in medals but in participation. Not everyone joins to “win.” Some are there to move, to connect, to build confidence, and to feel that they belong.

When we reduce sport to performance only, we exclude people before they even step onto the field.

Sport can be:
a space for connection, empowerment and community.

And that is not less important than a trophy.

In community inclusive sports, planning is essential.
But inclusion doesn’t end on paper.

A solid design gives structure, safety and direction.
Flexibility allows that design to respond to real people, real bodies and real situations. When participants’ needs, rhythms or access requirements shift, adaptation is not a failure of planning. It’s part of inclusive practice.

Community sport works best when planning and listening go hand in hand.

Είσαι επαγγελματίας στον χώρο του αθλητισμού, της αναπηρίας ή της ένταξης;

Did you know that two athletes with the same impairment may need different adaptations in community sport?

Community Inclusive Sports are not about fixed rules or one-size-fits-all solutions. They are about flexibility, dialogue and shared decision-making. In community settings, adaptations often already exist — in rules, equipment, pace or roles — but what makes them inclusive is how they are chosen.

Instead of assuming needs based on previous experience, inclusive practice starts by asking the person involved. What helps you participate? What makes the activity accessible for you? What works in your body, your rhythm, your everyday reality?

Because inclusive community sport is not designed for disabled people.
It is designed with them.

🏀 Basket For All!

On Sunday, December 7th, 2025, the court came alive with energy, joy, and inclusion.
United Sports Cyprus teamed up with Omonia 29M’s Adaptive Basketball team to prove one simple truth: basketball is for everyone.

Players with and without disabilities shared the court, the ball, and the moment, turning the game into a celebration of equal opportunities, accessible and welcoming spaces, and the power of community and belonging.

Inclusion isn’t just part of the game.
It’s the game-changer.

This is the difference between “inclusive” as a label
and inclusion as a practice.

Designing for disabled people keeps power in the same hands.
Designing with disabled people changes who decides, who leads and who belongs.

Inclusive sport is not about adding people into broken systems.
It’s about changing the systems themselves.

There is a common misconception that inclusive sports are about activities designed only for disabled people.

That’s not what we’re talking about here.

When we speak about inclusive community sports — not elite or competitive sports, where separation exists for very specific reasons — we mean creating spaces where disabled and non-disabled people can participate together.

In the same team.
In the same activity.
To move, to get tired, to enjoy, to have fun.

Inclusive sports are not about separating people into categories.
They’re about designing environments where everyone belongs.

Coaching in inclusive sports is not about “fixing deficits”.
It’s about removing barriers, adapting the environment, and sharing leadership.

Good coaching doesn’t ask “what is wrong with the player?”.
It asks: “What needs to change here so that everyone can participate, enjoy and why not, thrive?”
