🩺 The role of the seminal vesicles and ejaculatory ducts in the male reproductive system
The seminal vesicles and the ejaculatory ducts are important components of the male reproductive system, having essential functions in the process of formation and elimination of seminal fluid.
🔬 The seminal vesicles are paired glands, located posterior to the urinary bladder, which contribute significantly to the total volume of the semen. They secrete an alkaline fluid, rich in fructose, prostaglandins and other substances that support the mobility and the viability of s***m. Fructose is the main source of energy for s***m, and the alkaline environment helps neutralize vaginal acidity, thus favoring fertilization.
🔬 The ejaculatory ducts are short channels, formed by the union of the vas deferens with the seminal vesicle duct, which cross the prostate and open at the level of the prostatic urethra. Their role is to transport both s***m from the testicles and the secretions of the seminal vesicles during ej*******on.
Together, these structures contribute to ensuring male fertility by facilitating the formation of an optimal environment for the transport and survival of s***m.
📅 For the evaluation of the reproductive function or in the event of any urological symptoms, a specialist consultation is recommended.
