Nahual Tijax

The Nahual TIJAX is the source of power to cut negative aspects from the body, mind and spirit. This is the obsidian blade that is used for physical or psychic surgery, as well as a mirror. It is also used in divination, to view the other world. Striking a Tijax lights the divine spark of intelligence. This sign is known for being one of the tougher ones to be. However, if dealt with consciously, Tijax can receive the gifts and blessings of soulful karmic cleansing and liberation. Tijax energy is focused on perceiving and eliminating negativity.

Every day has a purpose and a Tijax day is a good day to: find balance and purify actions, thoughts and deeds. Praying for health, for our enemies and abandon those negative energies. This is a day to ask that we may not have problems or sudden accidents. During a Mayan fire ceremony the Spiritual Leader often spray the participants with florida or rose water to soften the pain of loss during this portion of prayer.

What is a Trecena?

The 13 days cycle in the Cholq’ij is called Trecena. Each day of the Trecena has a unique vibration, just like in the Nahual.

Similarly to the musical tones, energies of the 13 days are called “Tones.” Each one of these tones has a different vibration and therefore have a unique influence on us. Mayas perceive the number 13 as divine, contrary to common superstitions around it.

Since we were born in one of the days which was influenced by one the 13 tones, we can understand our relationship with the divine plan by understanding our tone. The tone of our birth is almost like a mirror that shows us where we stand in the big picture. It helps us to understand our role in the divine plan.

We choose to be born in one of the 20 Day Signs with our higher selves, and we can call this “individual life goal.” However, we do not choose the tone we are born into; this is rather a mission that is given to us from the Universe.

Nahual No'j

The Nahual N’oj is the energy of the insight that comes from knowledge that has been synthesized by the Earth to deepen the meaning. This is a visceral way of knowing. When the Nawal N’oj is welcomed into the traditional Mayan fire ceremony, all the participants are given some little bits of copal, a special offering of incense made from the sap of the tree. Holding this in their first at the forehead, participants are asked to infuse the offering with their negative thoughts before tossing it into the fire for purification and transformation.

Every day has a purpose and a No'j day is a good day to: Ask the Nahuales for knowledge and clarity. In terms of physical health, mental nourishment and improved ancestral memories. In Mayan fire ceremony, the copal offering ignites amazing golden flames and creates a beautiful aroma in the smoke, where the ancestors are found. This is the seat of intuition.

Nahual Ajmaq

The Nahal AJMAQ is the energy of sinners and the acknowledgment that due to the human condition, we all need to be forgiven, accepted and loved. This can be one of the signs that is more challenged in life, struggling than more than most. Their tenacity to Truth provides the greatest rewards.

Every day has a purpose and a Ajmaq day is a good day to ask for forgiveness for all transgressions and ask the Mayan Spiritual Leader to petition Ajmaq on your behalf and for the wrongdoings of the ancestors. It is the most auspicious day for sinners to forgive and be forgiven. It is a day to cure all diseases, day to solve family problems and ask for material strength and spirituality. It helps to be in harmony with Mother Earth. On the day Ajmaq ceremonies are held to bless the sons and daughters who need special prayers for health.

Nahual Tz'ikin

The Nahual TZ’KIN, Bird or Eagle enlightens the energy and takes it from serious to fun. As the Nahual is called into the traditional Mayan fire ceremony, Bird may take the form of a big, bad eagle or a baby swallow. Participants are given sesame seeds to offer the fire and asked to make bird sounds as they throw the seeds into the flames. Their pop and crackle sounds accompany the wide range (and quality) of human bird calls and laughter.

Every day has a purpose and a Bird day is a good day to, as the Maya see it, seek love and wealth, both personally and for the community. Offerings and celebrations are made to the Tz'ikin to ask for money, simplicity and kindness. The energy of this day is also good for community projects, for protection of business, couples, friends and to scare away birds damaging crops, especially maize, the Maya’s sacred food of life.
