And your 2025 EMPLOYEE OF THE YEAR is ... 🥳

The GRMC family came together to celebrate excellence, dedication, and heart at our recent Employee of the Year Ceremony, as well as award the 2025 Employee of the Year. This year, we congratulate BLLYAS OTIWII, Emergency Department Technician! 👏🏼🌟

With more than ten years of service, Bllyas is one of GRMC’s longest-serving team members—recognized for his calm demeanor under pressure, strong clinical awareness, and unwavering commitment to supporting patients and colleagues during high-acuity situations.

Reflecting on his journey, Bllyas shared, “What inspired me to work here is God… That’s why I say, ‘Not mine, but His,’ because it’s not my will, but His will.” His humility, faith, and dedication continue to inspire those who work alongside him every day.

The ceremony was also a heartfelt tribute to our previous Employee of the Year awardees who still remain part of the GRMC family. Each was recognized with a custom GRMC blazer—symbolizing their lasting impact, leadership, and commitment as our hospital continues to grow and evolve.

GRMC’s Emergency Department Manager Carmela Franquez shared, Bllyas has “shown up with heart, humility, and an unwavering commitment,” bringing comfort and confidence to his team in moments when every second matters. His recognition is not only a celebration of performance, but of loyalty, integrity, and the values that define who we are as a hospital.

We closed the celebration the best way possible—together—with a toast and shared moments of gratitude + local chesa, courtesy of Capitol Kitchen! 🥂🧀It was a day of recognizing our people who make GRMC a place of care, compassion, and purpose.

Congratulations, Bllyas, and thank you to all our employees who show up every day to care for our community!
Biba GRMC! 🎊💙

When Patrick Ilao started feeling intense discomfort, weakness, and overwhelming fatigue, he knew something wasn’t right. Trusting his instincts, he went to get checked—and that decision made all the difference.

After an abnormal reading on his echocardiogram, Patrick immediately went to GRMC, where he was met by our Emergency Department team and interventional cardiologist, Dr. Golla. Within moments, tests confirmed he was having a heart attack—and our Cath Lab team sprang into action alongside Dr. Golla.

A balloon was placed, followed by a stent, restoring blood flow to Patrick’s heart ❤️‍🔥. Every step was swift, coordinated, and focused on one thing: saving his life.

But for Patrick, what stood out most was the care behind the medicine. He shared how calm, patient, and reassuring Dr. Golla was—taking time to explain what was happening and making sure Patrick felt informed and supported during one of the most daunting moments of his life. Not only that, but sharing how incredibly swift and caring all of GRMC's teams were to make sure he recovered safely. 💙

Today, Patrick is back on his feet and back to work 💪—a powerful reminder that when minutes matter, having the right team close to home matters even more. Thank you to Patrick for trusting us with his story, and to the GRMC teams who show up with skill, heart, and urgency when it matters most.

This is life-saving heart care, right here at GRMC, and if an emergency ever happens, Guam knows that expert, compassionate care is ready when you need it most ⏱️

In commemoration of IV Nurses Day, we sat down with a few of the incredible nurses from our Infusion Clinic under the GRMC Cancer Center to ask an important question: What exactly is an infusion nurse?

Their answers say it all. From easing anxiety during treatments like chemotherapy to creating a calm, reassuring space during some of life’s most vulnerable moments, our infusion nurses do so much more than administer care—they build trust, offer comfort, and walk alongside patients every step of the way.

What truly stood out was the heart behind the work. A genuine love for their patients, pride in their team, and a shared commitment to delivering compassionate, high-quality cancer care every single day. 💙

This is the difference at GRMC—where patients receive care with empathy, expertise, and dignity, and where our nurses feel supported, fulfilled, and proud of the impact they make.

Whether you’re seeking compassionate cancer care or looking to grow your career with a team that truly cares, this is Team GRMC. ✨

This month with Your Healthcare Partner on The Point, we’re shining a spotlight on a powerful tool that can change—and even save—lives: GRMC’s newly launched Lung Cancer Screening Program! 💙✨

Joining Ray is returning guest Dr. Klaus Meinhof, GRMC Pulmonologist, and for the first time, we’re welcoming Dr. “Murali” Kondapaneni, GRMC Pulmonologist, to talk about why early detection matters more than ever for Guam’s island community.

In this episode, they break down:
✅ What lung cancer screening is (why it’s harmless and quick)
✅ Who qualifies—especially those who have smoked within the last 15 years
✅ Why screening can catch lung cancer before symptoms even appear
✅ How GRMC is strengthening prevention and early detection for high-risk patients

This is an important conversation for anyone who has smoked, has a history of smoking, or has a loved one who may be at risk. The earlier we catch it, the more options we have—and the stronger the chance for a better outcome.
