At W & T George and Company Limited (WTG), we merge our commitment to traditional family values with innovation, diversification and service to develop a dynamic group of companies that are headquartered in Georgetown, Guyana. Founded by William George in the mid-1970’s, WTG is now the parent company of six subsidiaries, spanning the fields of food and beverage, information technology, construction, real estate and healthcare.
Our history begins with “The Shop” – a small, wooden squatter business at the intersection of Regent and Hinck streets at the Georgetown-East Coast car park. William George relied on his decades of experience as a building contractor and proprietor of earlier ventures to expand what was a quaint ice-cream and pastry parlour into a full-fledged diner, called Kathy’s Diner, by acquiring adjacent squatter businesses. Then, in 1983, a milestone was achieved when he purchased the plot of land that originally housed The Shop. Today, his legacy is evident not only in our name, being William and Thelma George Company Limited, but also in our approach to business.
Kathy’s Diner was expanded and rebranded as Quality+ Fast Foods & Bakery, one of Guyana’s leading bakeries and restaurants. Having successfully occupied that niche, WTG developed a reputation synonymous with quality, and thus, diversified.
The launching of The Computer Lab in 2000 – an innovative internet telephony service provider – was WTG’s first foray into information technology. It revolutionized Guyana’s telecommunications sector by providing Guyanese with easy, affordable access to countries around the world.
