More than forty African-Guyanese were killed in the bloodiest massacre of the bloodiest period of this country's modern history when an explosion wrecked the launch "Son Chapman" off Hurudaia, 80 km up the Demerara River at 16:00 hours on Monday 6th July, 1964. This boat was owned by popular Mackenzie business man, Norman Chapman, and it was registered to carry 75 passengers. The tragic event was and still remains Guyana's worst riverain disaster. Never before in its modern history had so much death and sorrow visited the people of this country with such sadness and brutality. Mackenzie-Linden, now the town of Linden, still resonates with memory of those dark days.
Today the people of linden commemorate 50 years of this tragic incident.
We the members of Experiment To Discover Hope Would Like To give Our Condolences to The friends and family of those who perished in this tragedy...

YOUTH GROUP DONATES MEDICAL DRUGS TO REGION 10! (Guyana Times, 4th April)

Regional Health Officer (RHO) of Region 10, Dr Pansy Armstrong on Thursday received a quantity of medical drugs, handed over by the Experiment To Discover Hope Youth Group.
The drugs were made possible through an overseas-based medical team, spearheaded by Dr Wayne Sampson and Dr Collie Oudkerk, who both hail from Linden.
The drugs are expected to be distributed to various health facilities across the community.
Health centres at Wisroc, Amelia’s Ward, One Mile, Vivian Parris, Silver Hill and others are expected to benefit from the donation.
Armstrong noted that the overseas-based team has been conducting outreach clinics in Linden annually for the past two years. The drugs consist of vitamins and painkillers, among others, and were handed over in the boardroom of the Region 10 Democratic Council (RDC).
President of the youth group Natalia Jordan, who handed over the drugs, said they were pleased to be a part of the initiative.
“This is our way of giving back to the community. Our group is based on volunteerism and giving back. This is our way of showing the community that we care.”
Armstrong said she was pleased to receive the pharmaceuticals and thanked the persons behind the initiative.
“I must say it’s a good gesture. This donation of drugs will go to the facilities that it is intended to go and it will benefit our community. We welcome the doctors yearly and we are thankful for what they have donated,” she stated.

An Article From Guyana Times's Sunday 6th April Edition...

The Experiment To Discover Hope Youth Group is currently one of the most talked about organisations in the Linden community. The 14-member, non-governmental organisation (NGO) is created and managed by youths.
The group is headed by members Natalia Jordan, Ronnel Gonsalves, Kerry Langhorne and Niossi Alsopp.
It was formed last March as part of an initiative by the Region 10, Democratic Council (RDC) and has since been making some meaningful contributions to the mining town.
President of the group, Natalia Jordan said, “We’re creating research centres at pilot communities within Linden. We started with Christianburg, Victory Valley and Wisroc. We’re putting computers and tablets into a few buildings and children can come in the afternoons to have their assignments done. They can even have lessons in the afternoons because we have books and libraries. People will come in to teach the children how to read, how to write. Even class sessions where they can learn how to sew or learn to make different things with their hands.”
Last year, the group organised a successful youth forum, and according to Jordan, it is the hope to continue with another in August. They’ve also planned a fashion show for the last quarter of the year, which is expected to include designers from Linden and Georgetown.
The fashion show will be aimed at showcasing the talents of Linden youths, Jordan said. The group is involved in fund-raising activities and is also seeking sponsorship for more educational initiatives.
The official launching of the group is expected to be later this month during the Linden Town Week activities. Jordan also stated that the aim of the group is to promote fun, educational and social initiatives for youths. Some of the plans executed by the group include the research centre and the youth forum.

Food For Thought
Waste your money and you're only out of money, but waste your time and you've lost a part of your life.
Until you value yourself, you won't value your time. Until you value your time, you will not do anything with it.

So Value YOURSELF and Value Your TIME!
