Introducing Momentum Ambassador

Stellaโ€™s journey into powerlifting began when she started taking strength training seriously as a strongman competitor. In 2018, she transitioned into powerlifting and participated in her first competition and won, igniting her passion for the sport. Powerlifting has provided her with a structured training regimen, teaching her the importance of consistency and the value of sticking to a plan long enough to see results. The thrill of setting personal bests serves as a highlight along her journey, fueling her motivation and dedication. Along the way, Stella has not only gained strength but also forged lasting friendships within the supportive powerlifting community, shaping her experience and goals for the future.

Introducing Momentum Ambassador

Jonathan fell in love with bouldering at the age of 18 and now itโ€™s his whole life. His goal is to compete on the international stage at the IFSC (International Federation of Sport Climbing) World Cups. He has a big social media following on YouTube and Instagram where he documents his training with climbing legends such as Tomoa Narasaki and Kokoro Fuji. Our goal at Momentum is for Jonathan reach his goal to represent Hong Kong, by helping him with his training injuries and working on his strengths and weaknesses to prepare his body for dynamic competition.

More common than not, our education and healthcare systems still primarily promote a โ€˜medical modelโ€™ of care that prioritises a more authoritative (โ€˜do as I sayโ€™) approach. In our opinion, this does not create the opportunity for optimal success and growth, and rarely provides long-term success.

From personal and professional experience, we find the most effective way to achieve success is by working together in an, honest, motivated, and open partnership. To achieve this, the above model needs to be replaced with a person-centred plan that goes beyond a diagnosis, and to get there, how we interact with you needs to change.

We all hear how important sleep is and how it is foundational to our health. But even when knowing this, we still struggle to change it for the better. Why?

Because weโ€™re all human and struggle when it comes to creating healthier habits.

Solving your sleep will play a critical role in not only reducing your daily physical aches and pains, but it will also optimise your athletic/physical performance (whether it be sporting or lifestyle related), and mental health.

The hardest part about improving your sleep is that it starts with habit change. A significant reason why sleep problems are so common nowadays is because of todayโ€™s environmental, lifestyle, societal, and work pressures. It is then made even more challenging with the rise of social media, Netflix, and company marketing โ€˜noiseโ€™ that loudly promotes less-than-healthy habits.

We understand everyone in HK is busy, and time is a stressor. You donโ€™t need to mediate for 30 minutes, or even 10 minutes. Even giving yourself 1 minute makes a difference. Here are some of our tips for managing stress.

1๏ธโƒฃย Exercise and movement. Engaging in regular physical activity not only enhances your physical well-being but also has a profound impact on your mental health. Research shows that exercise stimulates the release of endorphins, which are natural mood boosters, and reduces the levels of stress hormones like cortisol. Whether itโ€™s a quick walk, a few minutes of stretching, or a dance break, incorporating movement into your routine can significantly reduce stress and promote a sense of calm and balance.

2๏ธโƒฃย Breathing. When we are stressed, our breathing tends to become shallow and rapid, which can further exacerbate our feelings of unease. By consciously practicing deep breathing, such as diaphragmatic breathing or box breathing (e.g. breathe in for 4, hold for 4, exhale for 4, hold for 4, repeat), we activate our bodyโ€™s relaxation response, triggering a decrease in heart rate and blood pressure.

3๏ธโƒฃย Sunlight. Soaking up some sunshine not only lifts our spirits but also supports our stress management efforts. Sunlight exposure triggers the production of serotonin, a neurotransmitter that plays a crucial role in regulating mood, and vitamin D, which is essential for our overall well-being. Try heading out of the office and going for a short walk during the day.
