Veterinary Specialty Hospital of Hong Kong (VSH Hong Kong) has been formed to bring genuine, specialty referral and 24-hour emergency medicine to Hong Kong’s veterinary community, with a philosophy based on a model of referral practice in North America and Australia. Specialty and emergency centers can and should serve as an essential resource for local practitioners who request specialized or emergency care for complex medical problems in their patients. VSH Hong Kong aims to act as a collaborative partner and colleague to the community of family veterinary practitioners in Hong Kong. Importantly, the specialists at VSH Hong Kong will only accept patients who are referred by their regular veterinarian. Walk-ins and second opinions, other than true emergencies, are not accepted without direct referral. General practice services, such as wellness visits, dental scalings and vaccinations, are not offered. Our goal is to make sure that clients see our service as an extension of the general practice community in Hong Kong. VSH Hong Kong brings specialists in a range of veterinary disciplines to Hong Kong, and is fully equipped with advanced diagnostic and treatment capabilities. Our 14,000 sqft hospital is located in the heart of Wan Chai.

【雨天在外要留心 ☔ 提防 #鉤端螺旋體】

氣候變化莫測 🙂‍↔️，早前短短半個月，我哋竟然經歷咗 5 次黑雨，次數刷新歷年紀錄。🐩 落雨天帶寵物出外，除咗要避免濺濕同室內外溫濕差，主人亦應留意 🦠 #積水 #爛泥 #溪澗 #河道等地方，都可能隱藏住致命細菌——鉤端螺旋體！

呢種病菌嘅來源主要係鼠尿，再經水同土壤傳播，毛孩如果飲咗或接觸到，就會隨時受到感染。🤒 一旦病發，更可引致 #腎衰竭 #肝衰竭，甚至死亡，所以絕對唔可以掉以輕心！

⛔️ 呼籲大家喺雨天及過後，避免寵物飲用或接觸溪澗、河道或水氹，慎防帶菌動物（特別係鼠類）嘅尿液或污染物；
⚠️ 如發現毛孩有發燒、發冷、肌肉痛、口渴、多尿、嘔吐、腹瀉、食慾下降、黃疸（皮膚、眼白變黃）等情況，要及早就醫；

【Stay Alert on Rainy Days ☔ Beware of 】

With climate change bringing extreme weather, Hong Kong saw a record breaking record of 5 black rainstorms in just half month recently 📈. For pet owners, rainy days mean more than just wet walks: can hide deadly bacteria: Leptospira 🦠.

This bacterium, spread mainly through rat urine, contaminates water and soil. Pets that drink or come into contact with it can become infected 🤒. Once sick, they may suffer from kidney or liver failure, and in severe cases, it can be fatal!

⛔️ Avoid letting pets drink or touch water from rivers, streams, or puddles after heavy rain.
⚠️ Watch out for signs like fever, shivering, muscle pain, thirst, frequent urination, vomiting, diarrhoea, loss of appetite, or jaundice (yellowing skin or eyes).
💡 Prevention is key. Keep vaccinations up to date, avoid dirty or outdoor water sources, and always bring clean drinking water when going out!

寵物身體有唔妥，細心嘅主人好多時都會立即察覺到～舊年夏天，貓貓 Ada 嘅主人「媽咪」就非常醒目——見主子成日打乞嚏、流鼻水，有時仲呼吸唔順，就帶咗佢嚟 VSH 👍。

🩺 專科團隊經詳細檢查後，發現 Ada 右鼻腔有一個腫塊，甚至延伸到眼睛後面。 #活檢證實係 #鼻腔淋巴瘤——貓咪常見嘅鼻腔癌症之一。

🧑‍🏫 鼻腔淋巴瘤屬於相對可治療嘅疾病，只要配合化療、電療或兩者兼用，存活期可達兩年。但傳統療程需結合口服同靜脈注射藥物，對怕睇醫生嘅 Ada 嚟講，係一大壓力⋯⋯

經過多番討論，腫瘤科專科獸醫馬健聰醫生度身設計咗 #只用口服化療嘅方案，既減低就診壓力，又爭取到治療成效 🤓！

【 A Tailored Chemotherapy Plan for Vet-Shy Ada 🙀】

Sometimes, a pet’s illness shows up in the little things, and a watchful owner will notice. In summer 2024, Ada’s ‘mom’ did just that. She saw her cat sneezing often, with nasal discharge and occasional breathing difficulty, and brought her to the VSH Hospital 👍.

🩺 After thorough examination, revealed a mass in the right nasal cavity extending behind the eye. A confirmed , one of the most common nasal cancers in cats.

🧑‍🏫 Nasal lymphoma is relatively treatable, with chemotherapy, radiotherapy, or both giving survival times of up to two years. But the traditional combination of oral and intravenous drugs can be stressful, especially for a vet-shy cat like Ada.

After detailed discussion, Oncology Specialist Dr Andrea Mosca designed a plan to reduce clinic stress while maintaining treatment effectiveness 🤓.

A year later, regular check-ups show Ada is in complete clinical remission. Her ‘mom’ says with a laugh: ‘She’s happy now, eating and playing so much—maybe a bit too much 🤣!’

【Mosquito Season’s Here 🦟 Protect Your Pets Before It’s Too Late】

1️⃣ Use pet‑safe mosquito repellents only—never human ones,

4️⃣ Remove standing water to eliminate breeding grounds,
