Veterinary Specialty Hospital of Hong Kong (VSH Hong Kong) has been formed to bring genuine, specialty referral and 24-hour emergency medicine to Hong Kong’s veterinary community, with a philosophy based on a model of referral practice in North America and Australia. Specialty and emergency centers can and should serve as an essential resource for local practitioners who request specialized or emergency care for complex medical problems in their patients. VSH Hong Kong aims to act as a collaborative partner and colleague to the community of family veterinary practitioners in Hong Kong. Importantly, the specialists at VSH Hong Kong will only accept patients who are referred by their regular veterinarian. Walk-ins and second opinions, other than true emergencies, are not accepted without direct referral. General practice services, such as wellness visits, dental scalings and vaccinations, are not offered. Our goal is to make sure that clients see our service as an extension of the general practice community in Hong Kong. VSH Hong Kong brings specialists in a range of veterinary disciplines to Hong Kong, and is fully equipped with advanced diagnostic and treatment capabilities. Our 14,000 sqft hospital is located in the heart of Wan Chai.

【 Turning a Difficult Diagnosis into Hope 🔁 A story of courage & science】

November is , a reminder that cancer in small animals is more common than many expect. Early detection and informed decisions are key 🔑 . Today we celebrate Siu Bak, who first came to VSH after becoming unusually quiet and losing appetite.

🔬 Imaging and biopsy confirmed lymphoma, and the disease was progressing quickly. With the assessment of Dr Andrea Mosca, VSH Oncology Specialist, a personalised, safe and well-tolerated chemotherapy plan was created to give him the best chance.

⌛ Over the weeks, Siu Bak regained his energy, appetite and brightness. Each recheck showed steady improvement. He truly is a little cancer fighter 💛.

一年一度 🎃 為主子扮（搲）鬼（零）扮（食）馬嘅日子又到～切記喺與毛孩同樂之餘，要提防糖果、造型物件帶嚟嘅潛在危機！
🚨 外國有硏究顯示，每年萬聖節前後，寵物中毒個案會急升近 12%。
當中常見嘅零食危機包括：

朱古力中毒 🍫 貓貓同狗狗無法代謝朱古力入面嘅化學物質，愈黑愈苦嘅朱古力毒性愈強。只要少量已足以導致 #嘔吐 #腹瀉 #心跳加速 #抽搐甚至 #死亡。

過量糖果同誤吞糖紙 🍬 大量高糖高脂零食，會引致 #胰臟炎，嚴重更可致命。唔小心吞咗糖紙，更可能會造成 #腸道阻塞或 #窒息。

It’s that time of year again… When our furry friends join the spooky fun 🎃!
But while you’re dressing up and snacking away, remember that some Halloween treats and decorations can be scarier than they look!
🚨 Studies show pet poisoning cases rise by nearly 12% around Halloween each year.

Chocolate toxicity 🍫 Cats and dogs can’t metabolise the toxic compounds in chocolate. The darker and more bitter it is, the more dangerous! Even small amounts can cause , or even .

Overindulgence & swallowed wrappers 🍬 Too many high-sugar, high-fat sweets can cause , which can be life-threatening. Swallowed wrappers may also lead to or hazards.

Grapes & raisins 🍇 Even though they’re ‘healthier snacks’ for humans, they’re highly toxic to dogs. Any amount can cause .

【 #專醫說故事跨部門全力搶救 🫁 誓讓幼貓盡力呼吸】

當寵物連唞氣都變得困難，專醫團隊嘅配合默契就會備受考驗 🤝️。
年僅一歲嘅布偶貓 Dau Mic，喺 9 月初因為突然呼吸困難，由主人緊急送嚟 VSH 接受治療。

經過檢查，我哋發現佢患有一種罕見嘅先天性異常—— #腹心膜膈疝。呢種情況會令腹腔內嘅器官（例如肝臟）錯位進入胸腔，壓迫心肺，令呼吸變得極困難 😮‍💨。

❤️‍🩹 為咗拯救 Dau Mic，VSH 多個部門緊密合作：由 #急症科團隊接手初步穩定病情、 #影像診斷團隊精確定位問題、 #麻醉科確保手術安全，到 #外科團隊進行長達數小時嘅複雜手術，復原錯位肝臟。

🏁 好在一切順利，Dau Mic 術後情況穩定，幾日後已經出院返屋企。我哋仲好高興得知，佢依然係鍾意攤住食零食、玩玩具嘅活潑可愛小貓！

【 A Cross-Disciplinary Rescue to Help a Little Fighter Breathe Again 🫁】

When every breath counts, teamwork makes all the difference 🤝.
One-year-old Ragdoll cat Dau Mic was rushed to VSH in early September after suddenly developing severe breathing difficulty.

After examination, our team discovered she was suffering from a rare congenital condition—Peritoneopericardial Diaphragmatic Hernia, in which abdominal organs (such as the liver) shift into the chest cavity, compressing the heart and lungs and making breathing extremely difficult 😮‍💨.

❤️‍🩹 To save Dau Mic’s life, multiple VSH departments worked hand in hand: our team stabilised her condition, pinpointed the defect, ensured surgical safety, and the team performed a complex hours-long operation to reposition the displaced liver.

🏁 Thankfully, everything went smoothly. Dau Mic recovered well and was able to return home just a few days later. We’re thrilled to know she’s now back to her usual self: playful, curious, and always ready for snacks!

【 #專醫說故事金毛勇士 ⚔️ 奮戰淋巴癌】

寵物患癌 🥹 對每位主人嚟講都係沉重打擊，但積極尋求醫治 ❤️‍🩹 就係希望嘅開始。

去年夏天，金毛尋回犬冬冬被確診患上 #淋巴癌，起初對標準 CHOP 化療方案反應不理想，情況一度令人擔心⋯⋯

但主子同主人並冇放棄，直至「奇蹟」出現 🌈——喺接受 VSH 專科團隊建議後，冬冬轉用 #阿黴素單一藥物治療，表現出驚人嘅恢復力！

👏 經過 6 次療程後，冬冬嘅病情顯著改善；更令人鼓舞嘅係，除咗毛色變得更金、有少少甩毛之外，幾乎冇出現副作用 🌟！

📅 到咗今年 7 月，佢雖然出現第一次復發，但再次接受以 #米托蒽醌為主嘅化療方案後，仍然成功達到 #完全臨牀緩解 💪。

【 ⚔️ Dung Dung the Golden Warrior】

A cancer diagnosis can be devastating for any pet parent 🥹, but taking early, active steps ❤️‍🩹 makes all the difference.

Last summer, Dung Dung, a golden retriever, was diagnosed with . Her initial response to the standard CHOP chemotherapy protocol was poor, and things looked uncertain…

But neither she nor her owner gave up. 🌈 Following the VSH oncology team’s advice, Dung Dung switched to doxorubicin as a single-agent treatment, and responded remarkably well!

👏 After six rounds, her condition improved significantly. Most impressively, apart from a lighter, golden coat and a bit of fur loss, she experienced almost no side effects 🌟!

📅 In July 2025, she experienced her first relapse, but after another course with , she once again reached complete clinical remission 💪.

🧬 VSH Oncology Specialist Dr Andrea Mosca explains that dogs often tolerate chemotherapy better than expected. With the right protocol and attentive monitoring, lymphoma patients can maintain an excellent quality of life and even achieve long-term remission.
